I'm sorry, but there is no prospect of us making any progress in the Premier League as long as we play either Niasse or Sandro. Our top priority in the transfer window will be a centre forward - one who can score goals and lead the line too.

But until then, we will have to make the best of what we already have. Calvert-Lewin shows definite promise, but he cannot yet bear the responsibility of being our main striker.

No doubt we need a top striker but Sandro is a youth prospect and Niasse has been the highlight of the season.

People need to realise, that with the standard of teams Sam has been asked to manage in the past, he had very little option, BUT, to set his sides up that way.

Now, for probably the first time in his career, he has a group of players , with the potential to go a lot further in the league. than he has ever had before.

I think over the coming months, we will see a different side to his tactics, yes he will keep us tight at the back, but after his tweeks at half time on Saturday, he is tactically astute, and with Shakespeare's assistance, i think we will be quite a good watch in most of our games.

A bottom half manager, who has only ever managed relegation certainties, or they were until Sam arrived.

Give the man a chance, he might just surprise you.

You cant teach an old dog new tricks.

You mean that Niasse who's the most regular scorer in the Premier League? Or is there another one?

The point is,of course,Dave, that you can, and it happens all the time.

He's been managing for 26 years the same way and only came out of retirement for one more job.

If you think you'll see a different experimental type of manager now then good luck to you.

Disagree entirely. Our top priority is the defence.

There's every chance that Allardyce will be able to restore the confidence of our existing players and bring greatly improved coordination to their play.

We shall need new defenders soon, perhaps next season. But I'm not sure that Allardyce will be entrusted with that spending.

He gets a hard time for tactics that Mourhino regularly deploys. Obviously I'd like to not see it every match, but sometimes keeping it tight is appropriate.

My feeling is we'll see more percentage football than we'd all like to see. We can moan about hiw we shoukdnt have employed him, but he's in post now and at least well have a plan. Which is better than what preceded this season. Let's just see what the season brings.

I'd say they are of equal priority mate.

We don't score many, but up until recently have conceded lots.

If the opposition score first, chances are they've won.

The last two games have shown that if we can keep clean sheets, we have more than enough firepower to dispatch everyone in the bottom half. We will however, never be able to keep regular clean sheets away or against half decent teams with Williams, Jagielka and Martina in the team.

Hang on a moment.

The only time he had group of players with some proper class thrown in he had Bolton top 6.

He's managed NGotty, Djorkaeff, Okacha, Campo, Speed, Hierro Anelka etc....all top draw international stars.

The lack of firepower and our poor defence are intrinsically linked mate.

The whole team knows that the chances are that if we go a goal down, it's game over / open the floodgates.

This is a contributing factor to the poor form of the defence.

So we need to be able to score or have the confidence that we can score, to restore confidence in the defence too.

Niasse is not an established Premier League centre forward.

His first touch is poor. He cannot hold the ball up to relieve the defence or to set up attacks. And he is not a reliable goal scorer.

No-one can dispute his enthusiasm, but that is hardly enough.

Dave, its common knowledge throughout the game that Allardyce is at the forefront of modern coaching methods, its just that most of his career has been hamstrung by fights against relegation(successfully, as well, unlike a certain Scottish 'gentleman'). Theres a fair chance that Sam himself feels he has something to prove, and Everton could benefit from this.

For me, the big test is January.

Right now I am giving Sam the benefit of the doubt and adhering to the theory that all his career he has had to cut his suit according to his relegation fodder cloth.

This has been reflected in the type of player he has signed.......JayJay, Djorkaeff and Campo notwithstanding.

He needs to show us he us capable of buying and deploying footballers from the higher branches on the tree, rather than bottom feeding among the bushes.

If the likes of Troy Deeney or Shawcross were the type of players he was bringing in I would be less than enthused :(

The stats for this season suggest you are wrong. He has proved that he can score in the Prem, despite playing in two different god awful teams. With a better team around him he could do even better.
