...he’s a fine player is Salah but I would hope Martina isn’t marking him in the Cup game. That was their chance to exploit our big weakness and Klopp took him off.

Hopefully Baines is back (who is an underrated defender). It would make sense to register Garbutt on January 1st too, and possibly pull Galloway (or possibly Connolly) back, all of who'm I'd trust far more at left back than Martina.

I wouldn't be surprised if we adopt a "play it again Sam" strategy (see what I did there?!).

We'd do well to avoid that though. A new striker thrown in who can offer us a chance to hold up play and be dangerous from set pieces is just what we require.
In fairness the best striker/target man in world football, whoever that may be, couldn't have done much with the dross being thrown up to DCL today. Plus we need to get support up to him, which we didn't do at all today either.

Something for Allardyce to work on and in fairness he said as much in his post match.

Eggs if you look a the 2nd half, Salah went walk about all over the field kept away from Martina.

Have to say I'm impressed at how well drilled we seemed defensively today. Yes it wasn't pretty but the way our players limited the space available was pretty slick, considering they've had such little time to prepare.

It's the absolute opposite of Martinez. Set up and play dependent on the opposition, and it requires ugliness then so be it

...absolutely. You think which player we would most want to leave the pitch and Klopp obliged. Amazing.

I thought our lads demeanour changed when that happened too. We seemed to get further up the pitch, and Martina relaxed a bit more. Very odd decision at 1-0 as we have a couple of lads in our team who can score from nothing.

Just needs to stick to a forward to get a hold on the game territorially, even in the channels and hold it. Get support up to them and we're in business.

I’m slowly being won over. He’s doing the job with what we have, and only conceding one in the last four is definitely starting to make the confidence come back. Imagine what that match would have been like under Koeman?

Oh and fair play to Sammy Lee too - he’s constantly on the backs of all and sundry. Did anyone notice if he celebrated after the goal?

Yes, get in there.

Quite. For long periods it was like they were all tied together. Forward, back, sideways. Didnt matter. Like you say, not pretty, but more than one way to skin a cat

is anyone seriously won over by today? Delighted by the result but we rode our luck. Klopp's hilarious team selection and mane's even more hilarious 'finishing' was the reason we weren't annihilated.

If our plan was to park the bus and break, it was implemented terribly. The defence were a total shambles at times and we did nothing in attack. The penalty was fortuitous in the extreme. Had we scored from a set-piece of a break I'd give Sam more credit.

Today was everything I feared we'd be under big Sam. I'm buoyed by the result but a million miles from being a fan of this appointment.

..can’t say I noticed that. I thought Martina’s head had truly gone and Salah was going past him at will. There was one 50/50 late on where the player just went through Martina. I have to agree with others who say one of the youngsters couldn’t have done any worst.

He did Eggs took up a more central role and showed a few times on the left wing against Kenny but got no change.
