Perception is everything. If we'd hired Simeone instead of Sam and he'd got the exact same results and performances the majority of those who are tearing ol gravy tits to shreds would be lauding Diego for a job well done.
"If we'd gone for that fat slug Allardyce he'd be crowing that 'he'd saved us' after we'd finished 15th. Diego has this shambles finishing 8th. The football hasn't been great at times but what can you expect with some of the dirge he has to work with? Once he has his own team and gets rid of the tripe we'll be flying."
Diego's status glamour and many trophies would inspire hope of success and pride that this winner had chosen us. Sam's rep as a relegation firefighter and lack of trophies inspire a negative outlook and embarrassment that our still 'big team' has sunk so low.
The 'logical' choice for Mosh is to stick with Sam and not gamble on the off chance that a Fonseca type is the next Pochetino. Sam is much more likely to get us Europe next season albeit with defensive football. (He's taken a shambolic team into top 6 on points since his first match). His methods, if sometimes dour, clearly work.
However perception is everything so we'll see...
That doesn't prove anything apart from we haven't picked up many points besides that it's massively out of date.
So far allerdyce has manages 22 games in the premier league wining 9 , drawing 6 and losing 7. Which would mean allerdyce ppg is 1.5. Which is better then koemans 1.48 and by the end of the season will probably be better then Martinez 1.56.
Regardless ppg stats mean nothing about defence the fact of the matter is allerdyce has had 7 clean sheets in the premier league. With us only conceding more then one goal in 6 games out of 22. Compare that to under unswoth where we conceded 20 goals in 8 games and only had 1 clean sheet.
He has improved the defence there is no denying that. How ever much we all want him out.
He's been incredibly lucky. This type of post has got me so, so, so angry.
Its like 2 wins on the bounce then all of a sudden they are brain washed.
Before he got here, matches vrs city, utd, spurs, chelsea, arsenal, burnley and leicester away had already been played. That is all of the top 9 bar us and the RS.
What type of points tally would we have if his fixtures were different? If he would of had to play all of these twice instead of alot of winnible home games he would be on half the amount of points he has achieved.
Throw into that the constant self publicating, belittling of expectations, the absence of any type of tactics and over reliance on a good player just pulling sonething off, his treatment of lookman, his non selection of anyone under 26......yes if it was a different manager it would have a complete different spin, that just shows that it isnt the points haul its the actual man in charge and we would all want to see a future
Put your hands above your head and step away from that logic!Simple. The poster I replied to couldn't understand the hatred.
I pointed out that the exact same results / performances would provoke a dramatically different reaction in most if they were achieved by a more popular appointment. The more popular the appointment the more positive the interpretation of what's happened since.
Sam was a deeply unpopular choice. The objective evidence is unequivocal that he's achieved very good results given what preceeded his arrival. We're in 6th position on points for the over half season he's been here.
The assumption Fonseca / Silva would much more likely get us into the top 6 and Sam couldn't is very weak since he's already done so over half a season.
The assumption Fonseca / Silva would be more attacking is very strong giving our low shots on target stats under Sam.
Therefore those arguing they want more entertainment have a lot of merit but the rest of the hatred of Sam has little to do with football results and is mainly a reflection of a perception that existed before his appointment.
Here is my perception. Sam Allardyce is the best manager a club like Bolton will ever have and beyond that a relegation firewall.
He had an opportunity to manage a big club and failed to meet anything beyond short term expectations. He did nothing to change how he is perceived because he is what he is.
I called for Sam to stay a lot earlier than some now seem to be. But even so, what I have noticed is that the results have been getting more and more consistent and solid, week by week.
Playing devils advocate here but has he really 'improved the defence' or has the upturn in our better defensive performances coincided with the return of Coleman, Baines and Jags?
I think you put a fair argument forward, and of course there is no way anybody can say with any certainty, that given the time and the budget, he couldn't work miracles with us and get us playing attractive football. However, his record would suggest this would be extremely unlikely. I hope he isnt with us next season, if he is, I hope he is a success, because if he is a success, so is Everton. But I would prefer a massive cull of the entire senior management team!I'm no Sam supporter and would like him to be gone by the end of the season but playing devils advocate to your post.
He has only been here short term. First and foremost we needed to steady the ship and build from there because as much as people seem to forget we were an absolute mess prior to him coming in. Southampton away/Arsenal home to name but two games were i can honestly say in 35 years of supporting Everton, that's pretty much as bad as i have ever seen.
He has only had the same players to work with that Koeman and Unsworth failed miserably with....bar his two January signings who for the large part have done very well indeed. Yes the football is turgid and he doesn't help himself with his comments etc to the press but football is a results business and he has done what he has needed to in which has been an absolutely atrocious season for the club.
With his two signings better than the whole summer recruitment that has been and gone is it inconceivable that he could build on and start to play better football with a clean slate of a season and his own signings in place.....
It's horses for courses for scenario: they're not the worst players and arguably suit Sam's style, but neither are the quality I have or would desire.Van Aanholt is definitely not dross and Nolan wasn’t really. He’s had good players and awful players like all the rest. I don’t like him, but be fair.
Utter speculative nonsense from start to finish. The major decisions will now be his and he is demanding a better return for his investment, especially with the club committed to moving from Goodison to a new stadium in the Bramley-Moore dock area.
