Danny Murphy on Roy Hodgson at Fulham;

"He changed the whole way we were playing," said Danny Murphy, whose header at Fratton Park on the final day had kept the side up. "He made us more of a footballing team than the direct‑ball team under Lawrie. It hadn't been ideal for the players we had: we had footballers, rather than just 6ft 2in athletes."

And Mark Hughes has won more points per match for Stoke City than any other manager.

Games: 163 Wins: 56 Points per game: 1.29 "Hughes has worked wonders with Stoke, turning them from long-ball specialists to a proper football-playing club... sometimes. 1.29 points per game is still good for only 18th." The Sun
Danny Murphy can go f*** himself. Horrible redshite.

There is a distinction between winning games and playing attractive football. Although Benteke scored 25 league goals and Defoe 15 league goals, Allardyce did not manage either Sunderland or Palace for the full season. I hope he doesn't sign Carroll.
But the reason they both got him in was that both teams were letting goals in every match and not scoring.

To get our of the bottom three you have to stop the rot at the back and probably more importantly increase confidence so that you can score, win and pick up points.

Benteke and Defoe aren't world class strikers, the fact he can get them enough chances and confidence to score that many say more about Sam's tactics than keeping clean sheets. And if it were just down to hoofing it up the pitch, don't you think other teams would simply mark the striker out of the equation?

I'd rather be on here moaning about the style of football, compared to inevitable relegation we were looking at this time last month.

Sam's been brought in to steady the ship and rebuild the club, not play like Barcelona. I'm also reading people say we've been lucky - you make your own luck in life, and ours has been made with a solid defence.
