His words on that sounded like a preparation for Everton to do minimal business in January. Striker in with the proceeds of outgoing players and then stay top ten.

That's what's on his mind from what I've heard.

He's here to staunch a wound that wasn't exactly gushing.

I said from the off I was doubtful that we'd spend money in Jan due to the windows Koeman had. Hence why getting someone like Sam was going to be on the cards.

The squad is massively bloated in areas and lacking in others. It needs culling and restarting.

Which again, is what I've said since Ronk got the boot.

Williams is 'better' now because we start from a really deep position. Even then he has 'moments' like the goal yesterday when he lost his man?
We still need what Koeman said we needed.. a striker, a left sided defender (although Lescotts are hard to find, so prob means LCB and LB). Rooney seems to be filling the gap for Ross, so I'll doubt there'll be much else?

All players will make mistakes. I don't understand where this attitude comes from where we expect every player to perform flawlessly. It's completely unrealistic and will only lead to bad things.

Also confused where this nonsense about us playing worse football under Samwell comes from.

People really need to try and start forming their own opinions rather than just assuming that the squeakiest among us are correct.

We are relatively comfortable in the league now, I think that if Sam is trying to ensure he is still here next season it might be in his interest paradoxically to minimise the business thats done in January as far as incomings are concerned.

We need to finish as high as as we can but there is a ceiling on that obviously so apart from getting a striker in I'm not sure we'll get other reinforcements at all.

If we finish top half Sam will credit himself as much as the squad and I think it suits him to try to start from as much of a clean slate as possible over the summer, with his own signings then, if he is going to be staying.

And then, what if he does? Semis in the cup? Another seventh?

Just what we need to generate maximum thread length through the summer of '18. It would be our way, you know.

That would present a dilemma. It'd be difficult to deny Allardyce another season (always presuming he actually would want it). However, even if those targets were reached the securing of a Tuchel class manager would make any decision to punt Allardyce completely understandable and supportable.

It needs culling of the old guard trouble-makers and the plain inadequate (often one and the same players, but not exclusively).

We have a clutch of youngsters like Kenny, Dowell, Feeney, Davies, DCL, Lookman, Holgate, Baningime who we need to build a future upon with the addition of some quality players who are hungry for success - someone like Zaha who missed out on one big opportunity first time around but is still young enough to try again.

I just dont see Allardyce as the man to do that rebuilding job. It takes too much time and more nous than he's got. If we hobble along making do and mending with Allardyce next season then we lose the moment to put that plan into action.

I'm not even sure Allardyce wants to be here next season. He came out of semi-retirement to take the job. He spoke about the importance of spending time with his family at this stage of his life. It wouldn't surprise me if he sees Everton as one last short hurrah/payday and to bow out on a high at the end of this season.
I doubt he would want to end his career being a sacked Everton manager so all in all I'm expecting him not to be here after the last ball of the 17/18 season is kicked.

Disagree a bit about Williams as it's not the first mistake this season but, he, the defence and team in general have improved because they have been organised properly.
Going forward, to improve again the play will probably change and players will be needed. Im not sure this could be done in Jan, so probably the summer window for that?

I've heard and read a lot of this type of stuff. It's a mistake, IMO. Allardyce is as cynical as they come. Please dont make the mistake of investing in him, he's not worth it. He's here for a big pay day. He'll make a mountain out of a mole hill in terms of what he's needed to do at this club. Fair do's to him, he hit on an indecisive mug like Moshiri and took him to the cleaners. Job done as far as he's concerned.

I have no axe to grind against SA, btw. I'm glad he's here and not Koeman, but he's not on some career-endiing noble mission where gets to roll out his frustrated genius with better quality players. Big Sam just isn't a smart coach. He's organised and he knows how to spoil a party. That's all.
That may very well be true & I have no means to disprove it so fair enough. You guys have much more exposure to the broader picture than me.

With regard to 'investing' in him, I guess I'll invest as much as just getting behind the guy because he's currently running the show. Couple of pieces of silverware & I might invest further with a little shrine for him down here but nothing more until then! lol;)
