Moyes' last season/Martinez' first season were exciting times imo

Yes, I’d agree with that. The argument for Martinez’s first season was that it was a Moyes defence coupled with Martinez’s attacking flair. Unfortunately, it didn’t stick.

One of the hardest attributes to achieve in sport (or even in life in general) is consistency. It’s very difficult to maintain. Look at Spurs progression, they did everything right in my opinion, good players and a fantastic manager. They’ve had an incredible couple of years but have recently hit the wall, just a little bit, in terms of progression this season. They sit 6 points and two places ahead of us right now.

We don’t have the players, or manager, to be a stylish free-flowing team. I don’t see how it can be used as a stick to beat Sam Allardyce with, especially when he’s only been here for a few weeks.

Interesting that he has kept Mirallas out of the match day squad recently. Jagielka also reduced to a bit part on the bench.

Quite intrigued by him not rushing Keane back in either.
...I also think he'll see Baines for what he is: a terrible defender, and keep him out of harms way. Allardyce means business over defensive discipline and that feller Baines is shocking at closing down and preventing crosses and blocking.

Worst he'll do is keep us midtable next season. But he'll give us solid foundations than we had at th start of the season IMO

Hes not going to fix it in 6 months. I don't see how if he goes next season we'd expect a manager to come in and then suddenly make us start challenging. That will only happen with another £200mill budget IMO

It depends on Moshiri's thinking I suppose. If he's just looking to keep the club out of relegation troubles and calm investor nerves for the stadium then maybe Allardyce will be allowed to carry on. If, however, there's a determination to higher the club's profile as one that's going places and capable of attracting the very best then Allardyce is out of whack with those ambitions.

I believe the whole Allardyce episode has been an embarrassing admission of failure for Moshiri and it'll be one he'll try and expunge at the first opportunity - this summer if the cup isn't won or a EL place secured.

We'll hit a bump in the road with Allardyce shortly and most people will see the wisdom of moving him out quickly.

It depends what our aims are really, and this is the problem I had with the appointment in the first place. In my opinion the club simply has to be looking to get past 7th. May 2019 would be 6 years since Moyes left with much of the fanbase thinking it was the right move as he'd hit a glass ceiling. If we're extending the contract of a 65 year old journeyman manager because he's managed to get us one place lower in the league than Moyes did that season, it's basically a formal acceptance that 7th is the new 1st for us.
I think we do need patience or a Usmanov coming to the club and spending money in Man Cityesque proportions.
I thought we were heading towards contesting a fourth place spot with RK in charge and just maybe if he had signed a quality striker we might have been.
However, the two appointments since Moyes left has left us treading water in some respects, but well placed in some ways as well. The success of the academy has been the biggest positive for us in the intervening years and we do still have a squad that is good enough for seventh or eight.

To go to the next level quickly we probably do need a manager of the calibre of Simeone and a transfer budget of a couple of hundred million at least.

Patience is fine but you need to be seeing signs that you're going in the right direction. That's why I think Allardyce was such a disappointing appointment, as there's nothing about him whatsoever that suggests being patient with him will get us to where we supposedly want to be.

Silva was the man Moshiri wanted and by all accounts he wanted to come here. Watford stuck to their guns and fair play to them - come the summer (if Silva lasts that long) they'll be regretting not taking the millions we offered.
I agree regardless of what Allardyce does this year Moshiri will want a bigger name. This is damage limitation. He'll want either another icon of the game like Koeman (well as a player anyway) or the next up and coming thing like Potch at Spurs (hence the Silva approach). Sam will walk in the summer with 18 months worth of money for 8 months worth of work and he'll will want to end his managerial career on a high so i wouldn't be surprised if he got us EL again.... maybe even the FA cup knocking out that lot on the way. He'd like to be remembered for more than never being relegated or ballsing up the England job.

I doubt there's even an 18 month contract in place. I reckon he's come in for the season and he's on a bonus if we get top ten.

Well Dave that bump in the road maybe Chelsea. Cannot in truth see us getting anything out of this game. The Allardyce episode may be as you claim embarrassing for Mosh but I believe he is come round from that and looking at recent results. Said before you may not like the choice of Sam but at the time no one else would touch us so what option did Mosh have?

Interesting about Silva, if he had come do you think he would have turned us round like Sam has, me I doubt it. TBH glad Watford said no.

No idea - in fairness i expect us to beat teams like Newcastle and Huddersfield etc. Under Silva with these players the RS could have run riot. With Sam you know you have a chance of getting something... it may not be pretty but at the moment points are far more important than football that is pleasing on the eye. Allardyce is getting the best out of a pretty average bunch which is what he's always done and that's mostly down to a solid, well drillled defensive approach. Silva appears far more attack minded and i don't think we have the players to play his way just yet. Maybe if Yannick, Coleman and Ross return we can hit teams on the counter but right now Allardyce's style is probably better suited to get us points.
