I'm not even sure Allardyce wants to be here next season. He came out of semi-retirement to take the job. He spoke about the importance of spending time with his family at this stage of his life. It wouldn't surprise me if he sees Everton as one last short hurrah/payday and to bow out on a high at the end of this season.
I doubt he would want to end his career being a sacked Everton manager so all in all I'm expecting him not to be here after the last ball of the 17/18 season is kicked.
You're in for a big disappointment then, some time in the summer, on that day well known to politicians...a good day to bury bad news, you'll find that 18mths...now 12 left; that 12 will have suddenly become 36mths...or 48mths.
I really hope you vault me for being wrong, but I can see it happening.

I hope you are wrong Degsy. Allardyce and ambition don't go together. Everything is okay at the moment because we are not getting turned over by teams, but expectation levels will be raised next season. A semi-retired Allardyce will struggle to meet those ambitions which will see us back to square one or worse.
Allardyce is stabilizing the mess left by Koeman and that should be his only remit. I think anyone expecting Big Sam to have a glorious Indian summer of his career will be short changed.

It needs culling of the old guard trouble-makers and the plain inadequate (often one and the same players, but not exclusively).

We have a clutch of youngsters like Kenny, Dowell, Feeney, Davies, DCL, Lookman, Holgate, Baningime who we need to build a future upon with the addition of some quality players who are hungry for success - someone like Zaha who missed out on one big opportunity first time around but is still young enough to try again.

I just dont see Allardyce as the man to do that rebuilding job. It takes too much time and more nous than he's got. If we hobble along making do and mending with Allardyce next season then we lose the moment to put that plan into action.

Worst he'll do is keep us midtable next season. But he'll give us solid foundations than we had at th start of the season IMO

Hes not going to fix it in 6 months. I don't see how if he goes next season we'd expect a manager to come in and then suddenly make us start challenging. That will only happen with another £200mill budget IMO

Interesting that he has kept Mirallas out of the match day squad recently. Jagielka also reduced to a bit part on the bench.

Quite intrigued by him not rushing Keane back in either.

Purely a guess but he knows he wasn't first choice and it suggests we are eyeing somebody else up. Publicly announcing a 6 month deal would have been a mistake imo, the players need to believe he's here longer.

In private I suspect that there's an agreement on a parting of the ways in summer with both parties very happy about it too.

I think that the board have no long term decision made. If the current form can be maintained or at least near enough to it... then why would Sam Allyrdyce not be kept on for another season at least. It would be madness not to.

The contract is for eighteen months. Nothing in life is absolutely certain , but it is certain as it is possible to be that we will still be a Premiership club when we leave.
If , at the end of season 2018/2019 we finish sixth or maybe seventh, should he still be sacked or his contract not extended ?

What exactly is the criteria for managing EFC ? , is it not winning or is style more important than results ?

Kev is a Snake.
Nothing broken at the back now so no rush to bring Jags or Keane.
No point forcing early them them back for the sake of it.

Agree. Loads of people banging on about style, we haven't been stylish for decades. Everyone reminisces about the Dogs of War but the football was horrendous but effective. Too much looking back with rose-tinted specs. We are doing well, not in trouble, Sam's buys will show his hand. Let us wait and see what he does

I totally agree. I don’t know where this call for stylish football has come from. Sam has players that he inherited weeks ago that have no previous history of playing stylish football. The last time I saw Everton playing stylish football consistently over seasons/years was the 1980’s. I’ve not seen it since.

It depends what our aims are really, and this is the problem I had with the appointment in the first place. In my opinion the club simply has to be looking to get past 7th. May 2019 would be 6 years since Moyes left with much of the fanbase thinking it was the right move as he'd hit a glass ceiling. If we're extending the contract of a 65 year old journeyman manager because he's managed to get us one place lower in the league than Moyes did that season, it's basically a formal acceptance that 7th is the new 1st for us.

Agreed.
Sam has been good in the transfer market, let's see how he does in January.

Strangely, now that our form has picked up our summer transfer activity does not seem so bad and I think Michael Keane can still be a big player for us, but will have to wait for an injury or suspension.
