If we had won today as we should darn well have done, two points up on Leicester and closing on Burnley.

But we didn’t. And you know why? Because Allardyce is not a positive, forward-thinking manager. His first thought is to not get beat. That’s fine in certain games. But I think his ability to come up with a plan to dominate teams and actually go out play on the front foot and win well is seriously lacking. There is no excuse for that setup today, none whatsoever. That’s the setup of a manger who’s always thinking the worst. And yes I know our squad isn’t the best, but [Poor language removed] me, it’s West Brom lads. If this is how we deal with them then whats the point?

People accept Allardyce because he gets results. But he’s never demonstrated that he can win trophies. And the way the top 6 are, what else is there for us to realistically target? We’ve spent £150 million and look further away than ever. If we’re not even playing decent football than what exactly is the big deal with finishing around 9th and accepting such dreadful hoofball? Is it avoiding relegation? Is that what we’ve been reduced to?

Saying that though orly, look at the high quality of the players in that West Brom team, a class above our £45m signing, so you can understand why we parked the bus.
Yes, they had high quality players (with respect to the 'bottom 14' league we are playing in...not sure too many would get in a top 6 club). And I agree with you: given the quality they possessed, I think the tactics we adopted, though not aesthetically pleasing, were the proper ones. If Sam can keep us out of this year's (and future) relegation fights, he's a manager we should look to retain. The standard of football between the bottom 14 clubs is very similar. I have no doubt that every season will henceforth be a relegation dog-fight. We need every advantage we can get to stay up....and Big Sam gives us that.

Id suggest it's more to do with the Mahoosive Bonus he will get if he keeps us up and into a certain league position.
Sam, looks after Sam.
He's taking care of his business.
I'm sound with it, for now.

Yeah because we are still utter garbage. The players are still the same. The manager cant not change that. What he can change is make us harder to beat which he has done.

Make no mistake, our team today is woeful. And yet we got a point. Its not great, its not awful either. Judge him when he has made his own changes on the squad, again though quite why we are judging a bloke who has yet to lose a game I do not know....

West Brom have Chris Brunt playing for them, they still created chances against us and in all fairness should have won the game, quite comfortably.

The squad is unbalanced, it’s not a “let’s be happy with a point and 1 shot on goal against West Brom” bad.

That's unrealistic.

We can, though, target managers like Tuchel, Fonseca or Blanc.
None of whom are proven in England and bring with them plenty of risk. LFC appointed Klopp, a man who had won the Bundesliga and had pedigree. Other big clubs are appointing proven managers. 6m+ a year would get most top managers to Goodison so long as the budget for players is appealing too. My choice in the UK would be Benitez. My choice in Europe would be Simeone, but so far we are not in position to attract either, yet one is at a club in a relegation battle. There is a way to go with profile and perception and in the short term none of us can really moan about SA. Today's performance, whilst very poor in an attacking sense, would have been a whole lot worse had we lost.

He's getting the basics in place, keeping us secure so that when the window opens in Jan, a couple of additions will give us a chance at a late surge for Europe.

Lot of the comments about Big Sam at the moment remind me of when Royle left. Not sure what some Blues expect after the extent of the mess we were left in became apparent.

Meh, he's dragging us to safety and an unexciting middle of the pack finish

After Koeman shot this season to pieces it was basically a write off anyway

Doubt he'll still be manager at the start of next season and we'll probably forget he was even here

He's here to do a specific job, and thus far he's doing it

Fair do's
Think we might be in for a surprise there mikey, got a horrible feeling he's going to get a crack at next season aswell

Obviously you knew I was taking the piss mate in my reply to orly (I've had a fair few Jack Daniels mate, apologies if you did)

I can stomach it for now and I am actually feeling quite grateful that he has pulled us clear of relegation but if there is no evidence of progressive football by the end of the season we need to cut our ties. Otherwise I can see things going toxic again by October next season.
