If we look at the squad as it is today...fast forward 2 years...

Remove the guys who cant get in the team (they will be sold)
Remove the guys close to retirement

We probably lack 6 players who need to be signed in the next 4 windows...with the u23s getting games and developing we could have a strong side.

Really? I think hes a very good manager based upon results at every clubs hes managed in the premier league...compared to their standing before/after he took over and the players at his disposal.

We don't know how he will do with more resources, better players and a chance to prove he is an elite manager.

True. Which to me goes back to what I've always said that Koeman has taken us back 2 seasons.

We're not going to bring in 6 players in and have them gel

to be fair the under 23's that have been drafted in have all made an impact. Holgate, Kenny, davies (not so much recently) DCL, lookman.. they haven't let us down when called on.

I would happily have our manager build a team around these youngsters.

Whatever about how everything turned to dust in the last four or five months of his reign, this is what Bobby was aiming for.

He said in an interview early on in his tenure that we could not compete financially with the teams above us, but that did not mean we could not compete with them on the field and that there was another way of doing it.

By building from within.

Pretty easy imo....lets say 1 more this window...

3 more in summer...

Then 2 more windows for 2 players (don't forget a few aren't going to be big hitter starters)

This is my first time commenting on this site. I have been an Everton fan for nearly 40 years. I have followed this site for a few years and just had to comment. If you look at Everton over the last 30 years or more. We have been moving in the wrong direction. Bad decisions after bad decisions. If you look at the top 6 teams in the Premier league and compare our squad and managers it isn't good. For example, look at Man City strikers or Arsenals or Chelsea. Look at the top 6 teams managers. Man U have Marinoho (sorry about the spelling), Chelsea have Conte, Man City have Pep etc etc. We have Big Sam. Look at the money the top six spend, then compare it with Everton. I love this club and want us to start to move in the right direction but I'm afraid we aren't. Big Sam may well be a short term thing but for me, it is just another backward step, in a long line of backward steps. I grew up in England and moved to Australia a few years ago. I have to stay up into the middle of the night to watch the matches and I have to say, when your sat there at 3am rubbing your eyes trying to stay awake it doesn't help when your team can't even manage a shot on goal. And this has been a regular problem all season. Anyway enough from me. I will get behind Big Sam because it is Everton but it hurts to see the teams we are trying to catch move further away.

Agree and in principle it’s the only way to go. We just need a manager and back room technical staff that can implement it. At present we’ve got neither.

And what do you mean by top manager, win the league?
Someone who can significantly over achieve given their resources, build a young side to break into the top 4 and challenge for the league. I don’t believe that Allardyce can do this and can see no evidence to suggest otherwise.

I like your optimism but I don’t think his record in the Premier League indicates that he is a very good manager just that he is a competent one.

So you want someone whose achievements to date demonstrate he is capable of achieving the above, and you want him to come to Everton 2018. Good luck with that

A bit of revisionist history that, things turned to dust in the last year and a half of his reign, not just the last 4-5 months. We were dreadful in his second season starting from the first game, the only thing we had going for us was the europa league, but we won only 1 of our first 7 league games.

While he may have some idea of bringing up the youngsters, I think the issue with Roberto is he didnt have anything he was aiming for. He was lost as lost can be and had no idea what to do after his initial success, a one trick pony.
