Eto'o, his agent and Sampdoria are trying to ride roughshod over us here.

I imagine we're holding out for some compensation on the signing on fee Eto'o would have received in August, which is fair enough given he's the one wanting out only a few months into a 12 month contract.

No matter what the current situation is, this whole matter has been handled terribly.

The club may think it doesn't need to say anything until something is 100% and they have fully signed-off on it and I understand that viewpoint. However when you have a situation where the other club is saying he has signed and the player is appearing in their team-wear then you either bite the bullet and confirm, or if you haven't signed-off on it then actually say this to your own fans in a fresh statement that what the other team is doing is premature and is not on. Keep your fans informed, make use of your media section and website. You don't just stay silent until you are ready because that's not the way it works anymore. They may not like that but they are making a rod for their own backs by allowing other clubs take actions and not responding one way or another.

lol

Did you read the Ferguson biography?

Did you believe the Ferguson biography, like you believed Sir John Moores neice? Don't forget Bills an actor.....as well as being a tough negotiator. You have never under estimated BK, have you Dave? Formidable. I know many who have had personal experience. Nobody crosses BK and gets away with it, but if youre loyal to him, he's loyal to you. Rodwell. Fellaini. Many more.

Reeks of Ginola/Gascoigne the whole affair, looks really bad for Martinez's ability to control a dressing room and operate in the market.

I cannot understand why you feel that Everton should go on the defensive about this. If every bit of paper talk, agent talk, and other club talk required a response from us there would not be time for anything else! Everton will say something official when something official happens.

It's a bit different though when one of 'your' players is actually appearing on another team's official twitter page wearing one of their tops and their club saying they have signed him!

I think that does require some form of comment from the parent club.

in what way? An expensive player wants out at the first opportunity because he's too old to pin down a first team place, and we're not going to pick him in his preferred position because we spent £28M on Rom in the Summer. Fair enough, we've agreed in principle that he can go, just needs to agree compensation.
The only ones coming out of this badly are Eto'o's Agent and Sampdoria who are pulling every every dirty media trick to push it through. Sammy's a bit of an arse for wearing their polo shirt as he should know better.

and yet we still hold his registration. we don't need to say anything or be drawn into the slanging match Sampdoria have been trying to start. We just let the clock wind down a bit.

I didn't really propose a slanging match with them, more really just a quick further update to the fans on this side that nothing is concluded yet despite recent 'developments'.

However, I do take your point.

wasn't the last update, Eto'o and Sampdoria have agreed terms, but we're trying to come to some arrangement?
Why make another statement if nothing has changed? we'll run the clock down a bit in the full knowledge that we still have his registration. Sampdoria can announce whatever they like but until we agree to release his registration, he's not there's.
I'm concerned that Everton wanted/want this to go to the eleventh hour so that the wages saved can't be reinvested. The quicker this is put to bed the better on that score.
