As far as I'm aware, this is the tweet where this all stems from.
Now this account has about 9 thousand followers. If they had sources that could get that sort of info, I'd assume they'd be much more followed.
Nah, not at the prospect of losing a player before he joins who I had no clue about a month ago - more at the club allowing itself to have such a clause to exist in the contract of an unproven 21 year old footballer.
The bigger clubs simply wouldn't have allowed it, and I hoped we were/are moving beyond the Deulofeu-ish nonsense.
If he does well, it just hangs like a cloud over us. Even with Lukaku we didn't have something that absurd in the deal.
40m release clause dudes and dudettes
As if we'd have any hope of keeping him if Atletico wanted him next summer anyway.
It's a crap, silly, probably to true, clause anyway, but it really doesn't make any difference.
'course it makes a difference. It's the difference between Atletico getting him for, say, £15-20m next year and basically acting as a feeder club in the interim or us demanding £70m for a player on a four year contract if they want him bad enough and being a big club making astute signings and convincing talented prospects to come here on long contracts.
If so, laugh, don't sign him, move on to other targets.
We should get rid of this feeder club image we have and Everloan as soon as possible. I thought we were on the right track - this would suggest otherwise.
The minor profit we'd make is indeed minor compared to the hit on our status we'd take in the eyes of other targets. Why would any somewhat premium player join if we're allowing kids to use us for six months before joining the 3rd biggest club in Spain?
That's my view anyway - I accept it's an extreme one but I honestly think reputation is as big as having money in the game today.
So if it is a 40 million (Massive profit) release clause only to Athletico and only for one year are you saying your wouldn't take it? Or that is would have a negative impact on the perception of the club? Athletico is the 3rd biggest club in Spain, played for a champions league title, Won a league title in the very recent memory. They are a bigger club than Everton right now. I would argue Everton would be making a short sighted decision, based on living in the past and failing to take advantage of EVERY opportunity to close that gap. Finally all of this is hypothetical, why worry about what you have zero control over. Wait for the facts to come out and make an informed decision. If the release clause is 10 million I wouldn't be as much in favor of it but I'd still take it, if he helped us in fighting for the CL next year.
Probably would actually mate, don't think Athletico pay stupid fees or wages on players so hard for them to buy from a team that is financially ona par with them
