Competed well in the first half, ran out if stream in the second, four of five keys players (Souttar, Halkett, Kingsley, Devlin & Boyce) rushed back from injury to play in this game and they tired.

The players gave it their best shot but Rangers are simply a better team than us.
Thought they defended well through the 90 mins, Souter in particular. To be honest, when it was 0-0 at the end of 90 nins, I started to worry that Hearts would nick a goal and win it. Whatever Gio is doing with the team in terms of fitness seems to work well.
Even though you missed out on the cup, must be a good feeling to know that you've got European football to look forward to next season?

There’s no good feeling right at this moment. I’m still licking my wounds from Saturday. And I absolutely hate the journey to and from Hampden!

But yes, a good season for Hearts in all. The extended run in Europe will be welcomed and I expect the club to bolster the squad this summer to cope with that. The club is strong, financially and probably looking to push the 15,000 season ticket mark this summer. Plus there’s a little help from our generous benefactor and over £1.5M a year coming in through the supporters foundation. The Euro games should pocket the club around £6M including ticket sales.

So all in all a good place to be in. We need the likes of Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd to be strong.

Rangers were just too good for us on Saturday but you have to pick yourself up and go back for more punishment!

I watch Simms with a view to seeing what improvements he’s making , they are often gradual, sometimes imperceptible! His hold up play was the big improvement last season, this season I’d say his positional play has improved , and today he won more headers than I’ve seen him do. I’m still disappointed that’s he’s not an aerial threat in the box given his size . And he’s rarely used to help defend corners , with his height that should be a given and something he’d be expected to do for us. Still , he continues to improve even if it’s in small increments.
Bringing it back slightly here, but my absolutely worthless pennies in this lol :
Hearts don't play (or at least didn't in the 2 games I've seen, so I might be way off) to pump the ball in the box, which is surprising given the size of both Boyce and Simms. Maybe it wasn't the plan for the game as Rangers also have big players, but Goldson is suspect to missing a cross or two per game - they should've exploited that a bit more imho.
In general I think those are things he'll learn and adapt to though, as it matters how teams play - DCL had the same problem for us when he'd have the physical presence and stature for crosses and airplay in general but early on - barely applied himself well to it. Hell, he's still a bit hit or miss at times! lol Perhaps if he's back with us - Dunc can help Simms with that aspect of his game, similar to DCL. I'm sure that 20+ games more per season would do the lad good also, but also would prefer him to be back with us if (or, hopefully, when) we bin Rondon off, seeing as now Tosun is also gone.

I don't doubt that.
My wife's family who are all like you seemed to think the chaps lost their mojo in the second half for some reason.

I thought Big Dunc would have worked on and improved Simms’ heading ability in the six months before he went to Hearts but I’ve seen nothing from him. Even when he was scoring all his goals in our u18s, U23s and for Blackpool I don’t ever remember him scoring one with his head. An oddity really for someone his size , but hopefully something that can be improved even now.

@HeartofMidlothian what's your view on this obviously extremely important question? lol
