2018/19 Seamus Coleman

He has, kind of. Does he not deserve a bit of leeway though?

He hasn't been the Coleman we are used to, he is still generally doing fine. (though his crossing is awful..).

I think its more of a case of deciding if Kenny is worth persisting with.

Why does anyone deserve leeway? Players are on the pitch to perform no matter the circumstances.

Same thing with the Keane story yesterday. People gave him abuse because he was crap without us knowing about the injury.

I love Coleman but he’s done.

We need a new RB in January, it has to be a priority. Not just because of Seamus' lack of form, we have needed a back up for him for years. Now we need a replacement for him and keep Coleman as a back up, like what we have done with Baines. He's still been a great player for us, let's not forget that over a bad run of form.

We have Kenny.

Take off the blue tinted spectacles folks he is currently a liability in defence.
It's a bit harsh mate. The last 2 games he's had Martial and Zaha running at him. There's probably only Walker and Azpilicueta who wouldn't struggle against them 2 imo. I do agree he's below par but Kenny is miles off him so Seamus should keep his spot.

If he can get his pace back after his injury then his lack of technique can be forgiven, but if he can’t then it’s difficult to keep him in the 11. I don’t see how after a whole career of training every single day he still can’t cross or hit a ball properly. His technique is atrocious.

How’s it harsh? Before his injury he’d have been fine with those two. I understand the sentimentality but no one seems to be able to name a game post-injury he was actually decent in bar his adrenaline-fuelled debut.

Yesterday within the first like 15 mins he charged out to Martial or Rashford as they were receiving a pass, basically stuck to their back and they just knocked it to the side and sprinted past into a gaping hole. I was just like ffs it’s the most amateurish defending.

Bolasie was useful before his injury, Coleman was brilliant too. Why is it so inconceivable to people he may not recover properly from it?

I agree Kenny isn’t the answer - a new signing is.

The problem is that that’s the level we have to get to if we want to compete with the top 6. One week it will be Hazard the next Martial or Mane or Zaha or Sane or Demarai Gray. Any decent prem side have wide forward players who will cause problems for us. Unfortunately we play with a two in midfield and attacking full backs that puts a lot of strain on the full back position in comparison to some teams that have a midfielder covering the flank too.

I do think of all people Seamus should be given time to play himself into form. Either way the alternative is Kenny and I know who I'd prefer. I agree a replacement is needed if he can't get back to that level (also in the long term) but I think it will be a summer job personally. If we could get a right sided Digne that would be sound.

I agree with the basis of your point but you're going massively overboard. There've been countless games when he's been 'decent', just not many when he's been 'very good'. We really need to stop making out like every time someone is a 6 or 7 out of 10 they've been absolutely awful and need dropping.

I think his crapness has been somewhat overstated. He has been pretty average and not up to his usually high standards.

You cannot possibly know he is done, nobody can at this point, thing is it doesn't matter right now anyway as we only have 2 options and Kenny may not be an upgrade. He has got until at least January and probably summer to play himself back in to form, by that point I think we are safe to write him off or not. Writing him off at this point does nothing.

He hasn’t been crap every game but I can’t remember a particularly good game since his return. He can’t cross and now he’s lost his recovery pace which helped him get back. Walcott was terrible too but yesterday our right-hand side singlehandedly cost us the game IMO.

The premiership is harsh and unforgiving if a player loses a yard of pace these days he is toast especially the position of left or right back
form can return but pace can't it could just be a fitness issue effecting his form
Luke Shaw had the same problem i know he is younger but it took him a very long time to recover from the same injury
