Didn't like the celebration, but not a huge thing either. Fans are entitled to have their view, and Coleman has got great support here through thick and thin. He isn't above justified criticism.

I don't want to see it again, so if he has got it out of his system then fine, the club/fans have been great to him and he shouldn't forget that. Take it out on the opposition.

I think he knew he hasn't been at his best so bit of a relief for him. I wouldn't read too much into it and I'm sure fans understood

It shows how much winning, playing well means to him. I have no doubt that the worse he was playing the harder he trained and he obviously was hurt by the criticism of his performances.

Isn't it great to have a player that is aware of what the fans are saying and that his performances for the team are so important to him.

That said, I think he went a bit over the top.

He's been [Poor language removed] and been criticised for being [Poor language removed]. No biggy really is it? He's not immune to criticism don't get his celebration me. Bit like a spoilt brat

Still love him like

Yeah he's hardly been roasted. A few 'could do better ' remarks but nothing overly harsh.

Looked a bit babyish tbh.

Found the celebration strange tbh. I know people are getting on his back but he must know that is only because of his subpar performances of late.

We have looked much weaker on the right side, since he has come back into the side, over the last 3 games. Jonjoe just looked more comfortable there in the games prior to that.

Coleman has been a great player for this club and I still think he has the fight to continue being very good. But he does need to improve. Hopefully this goal will be the catalyst for that.

His celebration was probably a mixture of anger and relief. It was fair but probably not sensible. Hes commented on his own short comings in the past few weeks and he’s obviously aware of the negativity around his game. He’s probably been hurt by the criticism and given the injury he had and the fact that he gave his best years to the club he perhaps rightly expected a bit more loyalty from the fans - ‘but this is football’

As for JJK looking more comfortable on the right, I don’t agree, I don’t think he was awful but I’m my opinion he’s not ready and looked out of his depth.

It was though wasn't it, he did the exact same thing when he scored against arsenal in koemans first season when he was playing terribly and people were rightly criticising him. Although his form did pick up after that match.

Coleman's 30 years old and unfortunately for him he the left hand side has drastically improved and that's has made the right our weak point. That's what other teams see and their going to keep targeting our right side. For me this will be his last season as first choice and I'm happy about that because I don't want it to become a issue where you look at the team sheet and see Coleman and think "ffs". He doesn't deserve that but that's what's going to happen. Walcott doesn't help and I'd want his replacement brought in in January if possible tbh. If the right wing did the same defensive duties as the left Coleman would have more protection.

He's said exactly what it was. I posted it earlier in the thread, but here goes again:

"We were a little bit disappointed after the United game and it was important to put it right. I thought we controlled most of the game.

"I was out for a year. That makes it [no goal since Jan 2017] sound a bit longer. I was a little bit disappointed with my last performance. Every time I score a goal I go a little bit mad.

"It was a frustrating time to be out and this season I've had a few niggles. The fitter I get the more chances I'm sure I'll get."

Coleman has had a massive injury. When he came back last year he came into a side that was geared ENTIRELY to defend. He also only played in runs of 3-4 games at a time as he continued his recovery from injury. By the time he got up to speed, the season was finishing and everyone wanted it over and done with.

This season he started fine. Not at his best but not bad. He played four games and in none of those games was he poor.

He then went away with Ireland and BROKE HIS FOOT.

He came back and relatively speaking did well against Zaha. He was drawn into a clumsy tackle for the pen but it has happened to better defenders than Seamus against Zaha.

He wasn't great at Utd, no. But he was once more up against one of the best wingers in the league and had no help from Walcott at all. And this is all while working his way back from injury.

So, we need to give it time. We need to learn and understand that the answer to a player's form not been at their best isn't to drop him, or that it means they're finished. Because it makes us look fools. Also, if people read quotes like I've posted above before making a sweeping judgement that the celebration was about one thing or the other (this isn't directed at you, i'm talking about our fanbase as a whole).

There's nothing wrong with criticism. I'm fully behind everybody's right to criticise, and you're probably right in that this could be one of his last seasons as being an automatic pick. But, let's just have some context, yeh? The guy has had a bad spate of injuries, and needs a run of games now in a settled side. Consistency is key.

I said last week that Coleman, since Jan 2017, has played just 18 games. That's now 19.

19 games in 20 months, split into runs of 4-6 at a time, is absolutely nothing.

We'll have to agree to disagree there as I (and many others) thought they were poor. Yes he's never been a fantastic crosser, but they were noticeably ineffective.

If they're regularly not beating the first man or are slowly lofted making it easy for the keeper or defenders to clear, then they're by definition poor crosses.

I understand your point of players gambling on crosses, but in the mainstay I wouldn't have attributed that as the problem yesterday as they were far too easy.

Perhaps Digne has raised our expectations with his prowess on the right, however I can't ignore how much weaker our right looks. Just my opinion of course.

Read my reply to blue wolf mate.

Coleman has explained the celebrations. That's good enough for me.

I don't like speculating, but it happens. However, when Coleman himself has explained it, I'm going to go with him, rather than some fans on the internet who may or may not have read the quotes.

Btw, I agree that Coleman's crossing has been a poor point this season. They weren't yesterday though. Pretty much every cross he put in was dangerous. In fact, whenever his crosses beat the first man, they usually are, because when he's on form with them he puts them into an area that the defenders have to deal with them. He's never been a player who picks out a pinpoint from 30 yards.

He said this yesterday mate

On celebration
"I was out for a year. That makes it [no goal since Jan 2017] sound a bit longer. I was a little bit disappointed with my last performance. Every time I score a goal I go a little bit mad.

Fans are entitled to their view.

But fans also should look at things in context.

Far too often now with Evertonians everything is black and white.

Playing badly? Drop them.

Getting on a bit? Sell.

Bad injury? CAREER OVER.

We - as a fanbase - need to collectively get a grip.
