2018/19 Seamus Coleman

All this criticism of Coleman is total nonsense. It seems like he's being compared with his very best performances. He's still a top RB

It hurts us to see Seamus this way but you only have to look to our left back for a comparison and see the difference. Digne does not get turned inside out regular. Digne is more intelligent and potent in the opposing half. The comparison is chalk and cheese sadly. Seamus is a target now because his pace has gone and he is more likely to be awol. Sadly he doesn't seem to know what to do on the ball anymore......either too slow in thought and the opportunity goes away or head down running into a dead end. We love him but we need better now.

No problem with Coleman but he is finished and i fully expect Silva and Brands to be ruthless and replace.
Keane should have the arm band now

Sadly time, and serious injury, have caught up with Seamus. I will be very surprised if he is.ever at his pre injury level again. He is still a decent full back, but, only decent, shouldn't be a regular starter if we intend to.progress.

I don’t wanna sound like Ronald Koeman here but... “that’s football”, with each season, you get a little older, sometimes slower, less dynamic.

It’s catching up with Seamus, he offers very little in terms of defending anyway, and since returning from that brutal tackle hasn’t been able to regain that half yard of pace which made him that excellent right back he was.

Gives 110%, but the luxury we have now, is we can replace them. I.e. Bainesy.

Can’t fault his commitment, he’s the model pro, and comes across like a terrific bloke off the pitch. But we can now look for a right back to replace him, to compliment Walcott more.

With Coleman's form and without a top quality replacement it could even be worth looking at 3 centre-backs and trying Walcott as RWB. He has pace but he lack of final product has resulted in many calling him to be dropped, but he may be more effective kept wide and allowing Lookman to come in in an inside forward role. You could have Digne and Walcott as wing-backs, Gomes and Siggy in the middle and allow Bernard and Lookman to tuck in and support Ricky up front or drop back and help the midfield. In games where we expect to have less possession we could bring Gana in with Gomes and let Siggy move a little further forward in favour of Lookman.

That horror leg break was always going to mean he would never be the player he once was.

He’s still a good full back, but I can’t see him ending next season as our first choice. When he is replaced will depend on how high up on the priority list he is compared to a centre forward, another centre mid and maybe another winger.
