Broken record Zat. You have maintained some irrational hatred for Seamus for years.

I just hope it is not some manifestation of xenophobia or sectarianism for your own sake, as it is a deeply toxic trait for the xenophobe, not for the target.

Against West Ham he was the only one who finally had a go at them, after ages of sitting off by the whole team.

Yesterday, he was still the best of a crap group of defenders. To compare him with Rondon is frankly childish and irrational.

Sorry if this offends.

No Zat, I loath cowardly anonymous abuse of any individual. You really seem to have problems facing up to what you are.

Putting you on ignore as I really dislike keyboard bullies.

Excellent post.

The hatred that is vented on this board by some idiots to this man is sickening....I suspect some are racist.

He has been a magnificent servant for the club, loyal and dedicated. His injuries were horrific yet he didn't lie on the treatment table but fought his way back. He has shown leadership as captain that we have not seen in years. The fact that the current squad is not good enough is not his fault.

I have posted elsewhere about how they are some of the worst players to put on the RBJ in my 52 years following this club.

Today's post.

Some very disturbing and unpleasant views here.

I'm hoping that @GrandOldTeam and the moderation team can take a look at these comments surrounding:

Xenophobia

Sectarianism

Toxicity

Childishness/ Irrationality

...and now accusations of 'racism'.

This is how I see it and let me declare at the outset I am biased towards Coleman, so take it with a pinch of....

He is super loyal/dedicated to Everton, and wants to be with us till the end. He has never demanded a new contract or stomped his feet or mouthed off rumours. He is declining (as has been mentioned zillion times, I hate Neil Taylor) but he does not select himself in team (though with the current setup you never know ? ), that's on the manager. He might have expected to be eased off the duties while someone else (Kenny, Holgate) takes over, which does not happen, and he is pushed which in turn exposes him more and more. Holgate WAS brought in as a cover for Right Back, if I remember correctly.

As to the sound bytes, he is the Captain FFS, do you want the Captain of the team to break away from the official line and expose the rift out in the open, and yeah what happened to the VC when he did that? He is forced to say what the club wants to hear at the cost of turning the fans against him. Can he break away and start venting, he can, but as I said, he is loyal to the club.

I feel really, really sad that he has to go through the BS from the club as well as the fans.

Fair enough regarding first the bolded part.

Why do you think he is 'loyal' to Everton? As far as im aware theres never been any serious interest from anywhere to sign him.

Why would he demand a new contract? Hes someone who has been paid far above their station for many years. Even being given a new contract while out with serious injury (is that why you think hes loyal) ?

Regarding the captaincy, I expect a captain to lead by example. How many times have we seen Coleman be the first to the referee...we saw more on pitch leadership in Townsend at the start of the season than with Coleman over many seasons.

Where is the on pitch leadership? Is it consoling opposition players who have deliberately committed a premeditated tackle from behind?

The recent sound bites in the interview he gave about how people can give him stick rather than other players...

...that was absolutely pathetic.

Pure arrogance after arguing twice with fans in the crowd.

Playing wise, Coleman used to be all about determination and using his energy to get down the pitch and run into the box.

While we still see that once in a blue moon, for several seasons he receives the ball and passes sideways/backwards...90% of the time. Has he every practiced crossing or controlling a football?

As the captain its tiring to watch him make mistakes and then blame his teammates over and over...

...also, again...twice recently arguing with fans in the crowd.

The 2nd part in bold, thats really nonsense isnt it?

He doesnt "have" to do anything. He can refuse if he doesnt believe in what hes saying.

He should thank his lucky stars that he was given an extension so he can milk the gravy train some more.

I dont blame him for taking the money...same as Rondon/Tosun/Keane/Delph etc

We will obviously disagree on our point of views, so let's leave it at that. You think I am talking nonsense, I think you are talking nonsense. So it makes sense to agree to disagree on our point of views of what is nonsense. :p

One thing that we do agree on, I believe, that the club as a whole is nonsense when it comes to having a sensible approach to the RB position

Yeah, too many senses there... :D

Never fully physically recovered from ankle break, has the odd good game which is decreasing value. Those good games like against WHU most likely when opposition in his field of play are carrying injuries or just having a off day and, runs like an old man now he is stiffening up like we all.do when in our 30s.

And never really got on with him after his attitude towards Song, as in putting him on some kind of pedestal, when he snapped Gomes... I get not wanting publicly criticise another professional but there was no need to turn him into some kind of footballing martyr.

@Bluerover needs to take his green glasses off.

Coleman has been terrible fir a while now and has cost us a good few goals, in his last few performances. And nearly cost us 2 points v Arsenal right at the end.

League of Ireland is calling, where maybe just booting the ball anywhere, might be seen as skilful

@Bluerover - you can't go 'assuming' with such public accusations - we won't tolerate that here. I'll refer you to your own recent post;

Lads, happy New Year. Can we please remove the invective and simply have polite debates. It is tough enough supporting Everton at the moment without seeing Blues attacking each other.

Racist, behave hahahaha

We are just calling a crap player crap. He should have been punted from the team years ago. Yes I get that’s not his fault but it still doesn’t mean we can’t call him crap.

Of all the players we have in this squad Coleman should get the most respect. Most of the rest of them are wage thieves who haven't got a pair of bollocks for a fight. Gordon looks a good sort, he has pride. But it'll be a matter of time before the cowards who infest Everton drag him down to their level.

Enjoy Coleman while you can, because he is one of the last of a dying breed in football...and more particularly at this club.

GOT I am sorry but I don't get what you mean. I have Zatara on ignore because of the drivel I have seen from that poster in the past, so I don't know what you quoted. Good Lord is it that difficult to state an opinion regarding attacks on our captain?

I agree mate.

Taking that same point, I would ask you - is it to difficult to challenge another's members opinion on a footballer without attacking them as racist, xenophobic etc?

It's not healthy to assume people are racist, xenophobic etc because of their opinion on a football player and of course, we can't go having people on here make such damning attacks based on their 'assumptions' of others.

Now, if we could get back on topic please...

Think most fans will hold Seamus with the highest regard and he will be one of the players that will always be welcome back to Everton in the future. He has semi - legend status for the service and determination he has shown us all. Players like Seamus are few and far apart nowadays due to the present day pampering and chasing the quick buck. His time has sadly come to an end and we need the change sooner rather than later. No doubt we will all have fond memories of him for his loyalty, determination and skill. We have been proud of him and he has been proud to wear the Blue Shirt....one of us.
