2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

….no isolated attackers tonight ;)

Eliminating as much risk as possible in possession is not a bad strategy when you’re in the bottom half. Some of the stuff Southampton have been doing for example is ridiculous when the players don’t have the quality to do it and they’ll probably pay for that with their PL status, a price no fan of Everton would want to accept under any circumstance.

There’s times last night when Pickford and Tarkowski almost mess up just playing some basic passing round the back under little pressure. No one can tell me it’s a tactical thing that Pickford hits passes too hard and the touch of all the defenders or all the holding mids isn’t great. Most goals at the bottom are scored from transitions after mistakes and set pieces. Limiting these and maximising the opportunity for your own gets you points.

If we want a reality where we are bossing possession every game, playing out from the back, and can do so in a way that doesn’t see us ripped apart by counter attacks, then you’re looking at top 6 football and that is only happening with a completely different financial landscape, and squad quality, hopefully one Friedkin can provide, but the proof will be in recruitment and investment. It’s certainly not going to occur on a sell to buy cheap/loan policy for the last 5 seasons and the only positive net spend in the league for that period.
I agree with most of that but it's not a binary choice between tiki taka and hoofball.

Russell Martin is this years Vincent Kompany , I will never understand a manager who puts his own football vanity before the success of their team.

However he and football managers of his type don't have to do a complete turn and go all Tony Pulis , Sam Allardyce and dare I say it Sean Dyche and imitate Wimbledon of the 80s.

You can be solid at the back , cut out the ridiculous passing around in your own third and still play decent football .

So you accept the squad weaker every season, but you want Dyche to do better.

Take a day off mate. We all accept Dyche is leaving
Utter levels of:

“oh, I’ve dug myself a hole here and cannot get out”.

And yes, its. So seeing has you completely avoided question 1, seeing as it would blow your entire stance to bits. Lets have question 2: Which of the following 2 groups of players do you think would add more strength and depth to a team:

Option 1:
Ben Godfrey
Lewis Dobbin
Neal Maupay
Andy Lonerga
Mason Holgate
André Gomes
Dele Alli
Arnaut Danjuma

Option 2:
Jake O'Brien
Iliman Ndiaye
Tim Iroegbunam
Jesper Lindstrøm
Asmir Begovic
Armando Broja
Orel Mangala

It's always been the case where you need solid foundations to achieve that type of football successfully and build for it. You look at Brighton for example where they have that solid a base they can employ a 30 year old who spent his time in the German 2nd division, back him, and let him work.

The choice isn't really about style, it's about the club mission depending on the state of it.

Im never going to win an argument with a man that spends 14 hours of his life every day on the Dyche board spouting the same stuff. Its obsessive.

Against my better judgment...
Broja not played yet but might come good. If so a massive asset but he hasn't been yet.

You missed Onana off the top list, which is pretty telling. Add him he nullifies Ndiaye. Both are obviously talented, but do they change games? Godfrey would have had game time this season (more than O'Brien), and Gomes and Mangala similar standard. Possibly like for like. I'm sure you are full of praise for Thelwell's achievement of doing this on a reduced budget.

Now go up stairs, have a wash, change your pants go outside and get some fresh air. Dyche is not worth you dedicating your life to this board.
