2024/25 Sean Dyche - Sacked

I wasn't really reading GOT at that time. DCL had his spells that last 2-3 months every season.

Yet, it's hard to find in general, we've missed that consistent striker since Lukaku.
Well it's nothing to do with GOT - he was consistently getting double digits under Silva/Carlo and looking on the up, it made no sense to go for a different type of player.

He's stunk it out lately obviously but at the time we had no need to go for a Wood-type.

Are they? Looking at any of their threads you'd think they can't defend either. We don't set up any full back for any success, as I said - we have no idea what to do with the position/combination of full back and winger; case and point are both wingers being deployed as wingbacks half the time and having the primary idea to defend (i.e. we overload only going back... interestingly).

Well they can as we do have one of the best defensive records in the league (yes as a team). But it's more the profile of the fullbacks. Are they offensive or defensive?

Ours are defensive. Can they get up and down the pitch? A 39 year old Ashley Young can't. A 26 year old Myko can but what can he do further up the pitch? Very little.

Fullbacks now are really there to support and recycle. And yes, our wingers are defensive minded...but there's equally no pace to break away either. You also get combinations further up the pitch when you have the ball. We rarely keep the ball up top due to tactics as well as quality.

But we have limited options in key parts of the field

Comparing Wood to DCL at this time doesn't stand up. They are doing completely different jobs with completely different support
Wood did a little better under Dyche than DCL has, and that's the only comparison worth making. Wasn't lighting up the stage then though

Patterson played well going forward (and still does for the most part, other than the highlighted no-target-crossing), but is allegedly very bad defensively, even though he's at worse the same as the rest.
Mykolenko tries to do an overlap every so often but we're not setup to do it - McNeil on the left has never played the ball ahead of Mykolenko, and Dyche even blasted him to the press for, uh, going forward...? when we lost that game. Ndiaye drifts in too much and leaves the left exposed, which leads to another imbalance we're never prepared for.

There's no blistering pace but there's no movement and that's where the buck stops for me. All of those players have played better and more dynamically everywhere else, but don't now, even Harrison. No idea to exploit any weakness, no preparation for any counter/attack, we just stack both wings with the 2 LB/RBs we deploy and hope the hoof works.

Always compare this to Dyche‘s Burnley Europe or last season.

I know he had 13/16 goals in 2 seasons. Good outputs overall for both. He had his spell during the first games, but then 26 games and 5 goals for the rest or 10 games without a goal in the last 10 games of 19/20.

But good consistency, both don‘t offer, but tbf we hadn‘t a lot of striker in the last decades doing it.
