His approach to fitness is dreadful imo the whole 'Gaffers day' is just nonsense. You won't find many teams that spend an entire training session with no ball work just doing shuttle runs and fitness work and doing that twice in a week. Mourinho once said that when in training players should always have a ball at feet even if they are just walking/running around a pitch. We also have alot of wasted running during games due to the way he sets the team, players are making pointless runs they don't need to make. Last season players were run into the ground by Christmas time looking tired and after that we went on a near four month winless run. It's pre season and look at the injuries being racked up, going a bit too hard with the boot camp stuff maybe.
They are trained to chase the ball like demented dogs which is what they do for 70% of the game.
Actual football is secondary.

Sorry let me rephrase that … didn’t we go nearly 4 months without winning a match?

Nobody else done that … we were also one of the lowest scorers …

Are those stats more or less important than the one that says 48 points and what that league position would have been?

If we’d have won a game smack in the middle of that period but then lost one at the end of the season would the fate of the club have been any different?

Over 38 games he was level with De Zerbi and Iraola. Ahead of Silva, O’Neill, Frank, Nuno, Kompany, Edwards, and Wilder. They’re the only stats that matter.

Took on a job that Bielsa turned his nose up at even though he knew he wasn’t first choice. Less than half a season left with difficult fixtures remaining including a nightmare start. One of the poorest squads in the league already behind much stronger relegation rivals like Leicester. Crazy owner, finances in a mess, Gordon sold before he arrived, fans and players clashing.

Takes it all on, doesn’t complain, keeps us up, improves the performance the next season despite two unprecedented points deductions.

The thanks from some fans? ‘HOOF’ ‘why is there such a love in for him’ ‘HOOF’ ‘walk away please you lost a pre-season game’ ‘

He practically saved the club from financial Armageddon but you can’t say that on here because if you do some hysterical shrieking banshee comes along to wail ‘why are you calling him a miracle worker, are you saying he’s better than Guardiola, 5 year contract for Dyche, HOOF’
He's getting paid 5million a year he better not complain.

We also had the fourth best defence in the league, would have finished 12th without the points deduction level with everyone's favourite 'entertainers' Brighton

Also had two runs of form either side of the horrid run were we went 6-1-1 (Man United loss was undeserved) with four wins on the road and 5-1-1 at another period (Chelsea hammering the only loss but the first derby win in god knows how long at Goodison).

So either side of that long winless run we we 11-2-2 on results, yet critics never acknowledge that part

Just to add, last season we got very few results overall you could argue we were lucky to get on balance of play a d chances etc (Forest at home being one of those), but a damn good number of results we were definitely at least deserving a better result in overall play.

Our finishing last season was God awful and created an illusion we were worse than we were, also got outright robbed in a few (City, Arsenal were horrid decisions completely altered the game - especially that Arsenal season ender)

Even is the hyperbole run of not winning (in fixtures largely against the leagues best teams), we picked up points and good results, not like we were beaten every game.

Yup I also definitely think the teams small size caught up with it as well.

Think the bad run started on Dec 19th in the cup loss to Fulham (thanks Onana) and lasted until the March break (maybe one game after - Bournemouth?) and the festive set of games just killed us and we had loads running on empty - Garner, McNeil and Harrison especially so. The extra 4 cup games including having to play a replay exasperated the issue too.

After that break the team seemed to have the legs again.

He did a bit more than just keep us up. I agree that he's limited and eventually we will hopefully get to a place where we can sign a better and more progressive manager but he's doing better than I feel you're giving him value for here.
Yeah, he is and if we were a top club (result wise) and some still think here, we wouldn't have a manager in this category.

In the end, in a normal season we wouldn't even have been in the relegation battle in the crucial phase. The closest we were was 9 points between game day 15-38, with a good goal difference and a few teams around us. Doesn't mean I accept going 12 games without a mean.
