Be interesting to see what the xG of all of the opposition of those teams has been this season and how we stack up against them before it’s heralded as good indicator of our performances. Also this xg with the run of teams we have played is high but look at who we have played. Points is always more important can play poor and win 1-0 and i kno i would be happy and hope for a better performance in the next game
I would rather be on 14 points, then 7 points.
Yes.
Agreed! Give me the real points over some made up stat every day.
Seeing as points are tangible and actually earn you something and xG isn’t and doesn’t, yes.
Great, then you all wish we still had Rafael Benitez you nitwits, because that's exactly what I described and you forgot that happened just 2 years ago. Absolutely nobody cares how many points you have on matchday 8 vs matchday 38.Yes
Winning actual games v winning imaginary points
I wonder what a fan would want??
Sheff Utd - 2.87 goals per game XG Against (Our XG was 2.59 against them)Be interesting to see what the xG of all of the opposition of those teams has been this season and how we stack up against them before it’s heralded as good indicator of our performances.
That's not true at all. I agree with every poster you have quoted. I would much rather have real points on the board than meaningless stats no matter how many games have been played. We would be about 8th in the league and full of confidence and optimism but for being super gozzy at scoring in goals in most of the games. That is what XG stands for when referring to Everton by the Way. Expected Gozziness.Great, then you all wish we still had Rafael Benitez you nitwits, because that's exactly what I described and you forgot that happened just 2 years ago. excellent work, was just starting to look at ‘like for like’ comparisons per match and you’ve added it.Sheff Utd - 2.87 goals per game XG Against (Our XG was 2.59 against them)
Bournemouth - 2.60 (our XG was 2.49)
Luton - 2.31 (our XG was 2.90)
Wolves - 2.15 (Our XG was 1.34)
Fulham - 1.92 (Our XG was 2.73)
Villa - 1.77 (Our XG was 0.63)
Brentford - 1.39 (our XG was 1.90)
Arsenal - 0.98 (Our XG was 0.34)
We average 2.19 XG for over the season so far
We have underperformed in XG in 5 of our 8 games!
(Our only 2 wins have came when we have overperformed against the teams average XGA), the only other over performance was Fulham on the opening day
This is a good illustration of why stats are unhelpful in isolation. If we play bad opponents, we should expect to create chances. The questions that matter are how many we're creating relative to what we should expect to create, and whether or not we finish them.Sheff Utd - 2.87 goals per game XG Against (Our XG was 2.59 against them)

Critically thinking it’s not just their average Xg you have t consider the teams they have faced so until 19 games have been played we will get a fairer picture. I hasten to add that withstanding injuries the 1st team and bench since mid September has looked as strong as it has for a long time and we have had 3 wins in 4. It will be interesting to see what results can be accomplished between now and Christmas if everyone stays fit.Not sure where you're getting your data from there but that looked out to me so just double checked it myself using Understat and my figures don't agree with yours
Average xGA quoted for these teams here is the average of the 7 games not including the game against Everton (otherwise that would skew the stats into something less meaningful):
Sheff Utd - 2.87 goals per game xG Against (Our xG was 2.74 against them) - under the average, but within the margin of error
Bournemouth - 2.52 (our xG was 3.16) - we've essentially created more against them than the average here
Luton - 2.11 (our xG was 3.65) - we've created far more than the average here
Wolves - 2.19 (Our xG was 1.90) - slightly below average xG but close enough to the average to not be a real concern
Fulham - 1.82 (Our xG was 2.59) - created more than the average
Villa - 1.93 (Our xG was 0.78) - way below the average and a red flag on this one (not that anyone really needed that one spelling out)
Brentford - 1.23 (our xG was 2.51) Over double the average here
Arsenal - 1.08 (Our xG was 0.28) Way below the average, although caveat here is that Arsenal's xG was 0.8 in this game and their average is 2.15 which probably tells you our tactic here was to hold out for a 0-0
We've actually underperformed our xG in 6 of our 8 games (Bournemouth being neutral since you can't score 0.16 of a goal) which is worse than you thought, but the flip side is that we've been better than the average side these teams have faced in half of the games, been very close to average on two occasions and been much worse on another two (and the stats agree with the naked eye told us about those two poor games)

I beg to differ. I bet Arsenal and City care how many points they are on only 8 games in. Clubs and their fans with built in losers mindsets roll out the "points don't matter before christmas" garbage, but the teams midtable and above want every point on offer.Great, then you all wish we still had Rafael Benitez you nitwits, because that's exactly what I described and you forgot that happened just 2 years ago.
