The fact we can win 10 on 14 and still play so negatively (at least at the start) at home is a concern for me. Our confidence was surely high, so it has to be a conscious tactical set up from Dyche telling them not to start a game on the front root at home.

It all works great when we get the first goal and I'm not trying to take away from recent form - it's entirely surpassed expectations - but you can't keep replying on nicking the first goal.

Mentality of this team has been praised since the points deduction.

Huge, huge test on how good it really is this weekend on how we bounce back against Spurs. I’m fearful.

Agreed. Big test. Dig in and get a draw, then it's a massive green tick.

Thing is its genuinely a winnable game. They've lost to Wolves and West Ham recently. But given tonight, and them finding their form again, a point would be a brilliant result and if they're on it and we start like we did tonight, we're in for a long afternoon.

Listen, we now know the outcome so we can with hindsight rip Dyche apart.
Managers have to make decisions (only one manager) but a lot of supporters will obviously put on the expert hats on and say he should have done this and that after the event. That is so easy if we don't get a result. Dyche called the team and set up believing it would work but it didn't. We didn't lose the match....we lost the shoot out (lottery). It is easy to cast blame after the event

We looked dead on our feet the last 15, madness how he didn’t make more changes and at least put Chermiti and dobbin on for the pens. Chermiti was coming in when we scored and he then changed his mind. Bottled it for me
He did bottle it indeed mate. It was a very David Moyes like bottle job at that.

I just think that game was ours for the taking, but neither manager nor players could grasp the opportunity sadly.

Many a winning cup run has seen teams come through shoot outs like that on the way to winning it. It’s just unforgiveable what Onana did. If he’s playing for Liverpool or City or United there’s just no way that happens, he just slams that in and they’re through yet again, but everything’s a big joke at Everton isn’t it for all these players who think we’re just a shop window for them to get their big move.

Onana better keep his head down for the rest of the season now and pay the fans back with top performances or he can gtfo in the summer window.

Just get over it. Shoot outs are a lottery

Two big steps forward for Dyche over the last few weeks, but that was definitely one in the opposite direction tonight. Once again, we showed we could find interesting ways not to get over the line in a big game when opportunity came knocking. That'll take plenty of wind out of the sails for the rest of this month...
