2024/25 Sean Dyche

Just ask Brighton who’s next on their list.
They don’t always work out, but at least they are progressive, they have an identity ever since Chris Hughton has morphed through possession to pace of attack (De Zerbi and this guys looks fairly similar) and the irony is one of our former players is their DoF.

what he provides is a level of consistency over a long period of time. And by consistency I mean over and extended period of time, 2,3,4 years you will average X points and X goals scored

His entire philosophy is playing on those, as he likes to call it, “fine margins”. He sets up for a 0-0, and then hopes a set piece or defensive error will lead to a goal. He’ll never go out to win a game and over the course of a season his mindset is that it will all balance out. The games you should have drew you lost, will be reversed by the games you should have lost but managed a win.

In some season it swings in you favour, you get the Europe qualification, then the folllowing season you’re almost relegated. You don’t build on anything, you rinse and repeat

It’s why he kept banging on about XG last year, the principle is the same. Probability is that it will eventually change in your favour

The problem he has is that you can easily have a season where everything goes against you and you’re relegated, cut off. And why the time comes to react, it’s too late; you may have injuries, you may have suspensions.

He’ll never change his ways, his philosophy or how he approaches games. Regardless of being at Burnley he had the total freedom of that club to buy whoever he wanted, and what he wanted was workmen like footballers over flair, creativity and unpredictability because that would have thrown a spanner into the works of his law of averages
Percentage football, isssue is unless you are at full capacity you can't grind it out. Also if we go behind he is clueless. Ultimately I get its where we are as a club but it's so draining and ultimately a risk in itself having very little attacking threat we are heavily relying on the defence being water tight and nicking one from a set piece or something, problem is of we go behind its game over, its very old fashioned football and actually we have the players to be a bit better I think.

Brighton are set up for progress at every level the new manager slots into an over arching vision of recruitment. We have none of these things

I have been quite critical of him in the early stages of this season. The only thing I would say is I pray that the ownership changes prior to any potrntial on Dyche. I couldn’t stand another Moshiri appointment as you know what way that will go.

Out of interest,
Carsley popped up on the screen during a match yesterday because he's interim England manager now.
Might even get the job
Has he ever ruled out full time day to day management? Did we approach him during one of our embarrassing manager searches?

The DoF should the sole executive (in the board) responsible for footballing decisions including appointment of hiring and firing of coaching staff, footballing philosophy/identity, physical and medical infrastructure e.g. training facilities, even pre season schedules. They should also work in tandem with the CFO on footballing budgets.

They don’t have to be directly involved in the leg work of some of those areas, but they do need oversight, sign off and accountability. CEO, Chairman and owners should steer well clear. The only decision they should make as whether to hire or fire the DoF.

The fact that we were one of the lowers scores in the league last season and when asked if hed consider a attacking coach he instantly rebuffed it and seemed offended by the question literally tells me everything i need to know about the manager.

Klopp saw liverpool were loosing possession off throwing 60% of the time. Did he sit there and say well i know best im the manager? No he thought this is a issue and got a specialised throw in coach to help the players, they ended up keeping possession off throw ins over 70%.

He brought in a surfboard champion to help teach the playes betrer balance. These are things we could be doing to improve the team and the way we play but hes too stubborn and thinks he knows better.

Ive seen Mourinho at real madrid make 2 of his 3 subs before half time because he realised he'd gotten the tactics wrong. This is what the top managers do, they know they're not perfect and they look for the best way to improve on that even if it means looking to others for help.

Theres a saying, a good king surrounds himself with people who are smarter then he is, a great king listens to their advice.

This is the exact opposite of dyche imo

Top managers know when they’re wrong and take actions to remedy their mistakes as soon as they can. There’s always the continuous improvement cycle of marginal gains established by the UK cycling team. This guy is not into any of that seemingly as much as he bangs in about sports science. He’s one of the most passive in games coaches I have seen.

Instead of being a welcome distraction and a chance to give players a run out, the cup game against Doncaster has become an almost must win game for Dyche and the club.
Jeez must win already and its not even September yet.

 Or...
Beat Doncaster and Bournemouth and it'll be all smiles on Sunday morning

 Unless...
We don't beat Bournemouth...Doncaster as well would be nice but essentially meaningless in the greater scheme of things.

And...
The closing window isn't kind to us.

Scenes!
