Sheedy on Moyes

Mustafi - I don't know the full circumstances of why he left - maybe he wasn't settled in England? Maybe he would have had the odd game for us if we'd kept him.

Forehaw - Top 6 in the Prem is a world away from League 1. I'd be surprised if he makes it at the level we operate at.

Ruddy - Simply nowhere near as good as Howard for me, and says a lot about the standard of English goalkeeping if he goes to the world cup.

Barkley - should have played more, but we've seen him cost us just about as many goals as he's helped us score IMO.

The point is though, Moyes wrote off these players, which makes his eye for youth very questionable.

Mustafi did not want to leave Everton, he wanted to play more and was simply not given a chance. He didn't want to go to Sampdoria, he didn't speak any Italian!

Forshaw - yeah, League 1 isn't the Premiership, however he's just been named the division player of the year. He'll be playing a minimum of the Championship next season. It wouldn't be a surprise at all to see him in the Premiership within a few years.

Ruddy is debatable. I think he's done alright at Norwich. He's frequently in the England squad.

Barkley's positives far outweigh his negatives and he's still only young.

Dare I say it, but Forshaw and Mustafi are precisely the sort of players we'll need to bolster the squad if we get into the Europa next season.

Didn't Moyes bring him in in the first place?...

"makes his eye for youth very questionable"???

At the time, was/is he good enough to start ahead of Lescott/Jagielka/Distin? Who knows? But Pier Kroldrup excelled in that league for Fiorentina. Miles apart.

Countless instances of that across every PL team - player isn't good enough, leaves to play their trade in a few divisions lower. It's a nothing example.

If Ruddy was in our squad now, he wouldn't be playing.

Again, Moyes indentified him and brought him in, after Ruddy failed a trial at Man Utd.

There's no argument at all to be made from that list that academy players left Everton and went on to prove Everton wrong.

Moyes didn't care about being 'professional' when he was telling everybody we should sell Baines.

Nor when he knew practically back in Xmas he would be leaving. Carried on pulling a wage at the end of the season when if he had any honour should have just packed up then rather than go on"managing" our team when he was hot footing to Man U training ground.

Talk about youth look at the way he handled Rooney here.

Hope this whistleblower does not get sacked, for me Sheeds is up there in the legend club.

He might have signed him (on the recommendation of others?) but he didn't persevere with him and let him go for nothing. Does it not trouble you at all that we let a 20 year old player go for nothing, who less than 2 years later is being called up by the Germany national team? It troubles me, mainly because it's not a rare example of him misjudging young players and their ability to develop.

Just because there are countless examples, does not mean it wasn't a mistake. I recall Forshaw getting rave reviews from all. He's clearly continued his progress.

Moyes had him as third choice keeper, when he was clearly better than Iain Turner. Why are we letting players go that end up being capped by England 2 years later? Moyes did nothing for Ruddy, he loaned him out to 9 different clubs over 5 years.

I'm afraid we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

As regrettable as Sheedy's comments were in being so public, they are unfortunately true and a damning indictment of Moyes' attitude towards the youth set up whilst at Everton.

By the way, anyone else find it amusing that the story regarding Sheedy's comments have been widely reported by the national media, but there is not a single word about it on the Liverpool Echo website? I wonder why.

How can you disagree when the record shows so few youth players got 10 or more starts under Moyes. Kieran Agard got 30 seconds. Lucaz Jutkewitz got 2 minutes. Both have had decent careers since leaving. Kissock, Bjarne, Plessis (a whole season on the bench), how many starts in a row for Victor? Duffy, McAleny, Gueye, Barkley FFS. Ruddy.

Although perhaps not the best way to go public on Moyes's lack of interest in the youth setup at the club is does raise some very important issues, especially for a club that isn't flush with funds to throw at flavour of the month mercinaries.

I think it is an imperative part of a managers duty to oversee the development of academy players, both from a technical point of view, and often more importantly, desire and application. I know myself I would be dissapointed if the manager of Everton football club showed no interest in my progress as a youth player. Also sometimes a player can actually prove themselves more in the real arena of a match than at reserve/youth level.

Point in question -- I had never heard of the lad Flanagan at the RS. They had Martin Kelly coming through but appeared to have problems at full back. This kid appears to have saved them a fortune and is a fan to boot. He only got in though thanks to an injury crisis.

I am sure we have some equally talented individuals in our youth ranks. I am very hopeful we will see a few make the grade in the coming seasons.

Disappointingly unprofessional.
Probably true that, but sounds like it's from the heart and it's no different to the "warts and all" type of football biographry that gets published every year, serialised in the press and bought in the thousands.

Good for Sheeds I say. He plainly gets the whole Everton thing.

It may come across as sour grapes to some but it is funny after the way Moyes treated us over the summer. Nice to give him some back when he is under real pressure.
