Sheedy on Moyes

Moyes generally restricted the development of youth players.
Occasional sub appearances and then bombed from sight seems to have been the general rule of thumb. In almost 11yrs he averaged about one youth player to first team regular every two years, which considering during most of his tenure we were poor little Everton without a pot to piss in. Hardly the great champion of youth he's acclaimed to be.

Oh without doubt. I mean we're all just speculating here as to why things didn't work out. We've seen fitness issues curtail the likes of Vaughan and Rodwell, behaviour issues doing likewise to guys like Kissock and Baxter.

None of us really know the reasons behind our relative lack of youth success during the Moyes era, but our production line didn't seem to work. I mean it seems fair to say that our scouting was pretty good, as we brought in some good young players, whether it was Coleman, Mustafi, Stones, Ruddy or (hopefully) Green.

Somewhere along the way though it seems the conveyor belt had a bump in it that stopped enough of those guys progressing to the first team. I mean for most of the Moyes era our squad was paper thin. It should have been a perfect environment to give youngsters a go, but it didn't really happen, and I've no idea why.

A) Moyes wouldn't give the academy a chance
B) The academy wasn't producing the players good enough

I'm more inclined to side with B but whatever the answer, it's certainly not 100% A - evidenced by no 'released' academy player doing anything significant elsewhere. I mean, look at the likes of John Irving, local lad - right back, reserve player of the year two times running, Captain of the reserves... Where is he now? I watched him often at Bala Town FC, he's in Australia or New Zealand now - he just wasn't good enough. So Moyes bought Seamus Coleman...

Like any other human being, Moyes had both good and bad points. He improved both the squad and the standard of football but never had the winner mentality in my view. He wasn't the worst manager we've had with the media (Catterick was dire as many of you will remember) but he compensated for that with his work ethic ... and for the dosh he was on, so he bloody well should have. He's obviously cautious by nature so youth wawsn't going to get too much of a look in.

His ignorant, undermining comments in the transfer window are what put him in the untouchable category for me, particularly the snide remark about know how the club works - an attempt at a put down for R M quite obviously.

If he survives till the Goodison game, I trust the supporters will make his 90+ minutes uncomfortable.

And then we move on. As no doubt he will be doing ... preferable to Dynamic Pixies of Belgrade or whatever.

It's not that different a point. It's central to how he viewed youth and bringing them through. He did it slowly, to the point where people think he stunted careers or gave them the time to become more all round players.

It's interesting to note that of the players involved either in the starting line up or on the bench against Bate, that only Seamus has progressed to be a first team regular for Everton. I think that's quite a good benchmark as Moyes will have been in post long enough to get a youth system to his liking, whilst it's been four and a half years since that fixture, so long enough for youngsters to come through.

It's a peculiar one for sure. It's not as though Liverpool were nicking all of the good talent from the area either as their youth production has been worse than ours.

If it is really Sheedy's account it is a stupid thing to say and he should apologise.

If Moyes now says "Kevin failed in his job to turn youth team players into players good enough for a top 7 club" people will go mental. Oh the treachery!

Moyes did a great job for Everton. He is doing terribly at Man Utd so far but that doesn't mean he didn't take us from relegation fights to European fights on sod all money.

And I have it on good authority that Moyes used to pay homeless men to fight to the death in the Finch Farm showers as he is an evil, evil man who we must find constant new ways to attack and denigrate.

Don't cry because people are criticising Moyes. He deserves it after the way he conducted himself in the summer.

....none of us truly know what personal conflict and frustrations might be coming out here. I do know 'somebody' at FF who says the atmosphere there is now totally different. I'm not necessarily saying that will represent itself with on-the-pitch performance, but I know for a fact that folk are treated with much more respect than under the previous regime. Its not asking much that staff in any workplace be treated in this way.

On a more serious note, i know for a fact from top to bottom the people at Everton love Martinez, he makes everyone feel like one of the team. He does his best to speak everyone involved at everton, Where as moyes had his core sect of people who he would talk to and that is it, he wouldn't even shake the groundsmens hand.

lol the miserable g1t!

Some living up to the 'bitter' tag here.

Wouldn't shake the groundsman's hand is probably the best yet.

I hear he snarled at Joyce, the cleaning lady on 21 December 2010. Bang out of order, right before Christmas. Ruined her Christmas it did.

Our Bobby gave Joyce some Paella on his first day like.
