Shocking Refs

The only thing I'd remark on is that this season there seems to be a strange trend towards not giving technical fouls. There have been the usual amount of tricky subjective ones with players tussling and going over, quite a few dives have been called, but there have also been some that just are fouls that aren't given. Like handballs, treading on toes, kicking people, shirt pulling from behind. I don't just mean Everton, across the board, it's as if the refs don't want to give easy decisions, they only want the hard ones.

The problem with the ref last night was that he is just too young to ref a game. You need to be street wise, game wise, know the difference between two big blokes going in for a 50/50 ( Mettersaker****e and Fellaini) in the air and one bloke going for the ball and the other just barging into him.

How old is he? Sadly the knowledge he has of football is this god awful rolling around on the floor ****e that we have had to come accustomed to over the last 5-10 years.

We are the worst team for getting up and not moaning about fouls in the league and it gets us nothing.

What was up with his playing the advantage last night? How can it be an advantage to play on when your striker has been pole axed in the centre circle and your winger has the ball wide with no one else forward? He didn't just do it once either, when Pienaar went down blatantly hurt he played 'advantage'. I think that may have been when Gibson got booked straight after.

Not to mention the blatant hand ball, the penalty, the easy bookings for our players which weren't even given fouls for theirs. Massively inconsistent, every time walcott fell over it seemed to be a booking for one of our lads.

Some of the decisions just defied logic.

At first I baulked at that statement. The one thing I despise about football is the lack of respect shown to the officials - you only have to look at pretty much every other sport on the planet to know that the behaviour towards referees in football is utterly abysmal.

And then I considered the fact that the referees themselves never, ever do anything about it.

I think you're spot on. If the referees continue to allow players to surround them and scream for decisions in their favour, then there is nothing to lose from our lads being a bit more vociferous. But there still has to be a line you don't cross: I don't want to see anything like the "Jaap Stam and Roy Keane chasing Andy D'Urso" incident, because that is gutter football and we are Everton. I would like to see our captain on the field at the time at least support his own team and put the case strongly to the ref.

Ultimately though the answer is more officials on field, and video reviews a la cricket, tennis, rugby and american football. The Pienaar penalty shout last night could have been settled in eight seconds. Equally there need to be a lot more post-match video work - Pienaar's second yellow at QPR should have been overturned, Suarez and Sterling should have been given retrospective reds.

I'm sure Gibson got the ball, the fact the Arsenal lad rolled around like Suarez got him booked IMO,absolutely sick to the back teeth of in particular our home games, refs and officials, running the game as though we are the AWAY side.

I think the main thing that is lacking from referees is consistency. The ref last night was terrible and gave some crazy decisions for both teams.

The number of times Fellaini was jumping for the ball fairly, or getting fouled in the process and getting free-kicks given against him was laughable, and then the ref gives a free kick in his favour in the second half and it wasn't even a foul.

In the first half, the ball was played out to Pienaar, Sagna jumps all over him because he completely misjudged the flight of the ball and Pienaar stands his ground to try and turn him. Free-kick against Pienaar. Bizarre.

And the penalty, yes they were both tussling for it but Arteta slid in, got nothing of the ball but dragged Pienaar down with him. It was either a penalty or a goal kick. The referee gives a corner.

I'd also like to see the tackle Gibson got booked for again, from where I was sat it looked a bloody brilliant tackle.

Retrospective punishment or leniency is a must regardless of what was on the field.
If the club is wasting the FA's time double the penalty, if not rescind the card or ban a missed red card retrospectively.
I know it disrepects the ref's and all that nonesense but at the end of the day it will help them long term as the knowledge that even if you get away with it you'll still get punished for wrong doings will help create a cleaner game.

Is this available anywhere? I watched MOTD, but there was nothing made of it, not even shown.

Other one was when Arteta balatently blocked Pienaar, by cutting off his run, and Pienaar conceded the foul for running into the back of him. Defies logic and belief. Justabout every media outlet has said it was a stonewall penalty, and it's not the first time this month, never mind this season. We just get up and get on with it, whereas other managers whinge, and things turn around for them. Niel Mellor on Merseyside last night, after commentating on the RS v Spurs was saying how it was criminal that they never got a Penalty against Spurs, how it seems as though they wont get one all season, blah blah blah. We've been in that exact same position, got a pen on the last day. Looking back, it was NEVER a penalty, but its the whinging that will be remembered, not even the actual incident. Regardless of whether they should of had one that night, they WILL get one in the future cause they have pointed it out.

I just wish Moyes would bring it to the attention of the media, not moan, just in a kind of, "oh, by the way".

Refs at Goodison this season have on the whole been gash, terrible, abysmal and ****e.
Assistants should go back to being linesman cos they don't fuken assist

We have a had a policy of respecting the ref for a while and it has gotten us nowhere. It just makes it easier for them to screw us over because they know we won't make a stink like other clubs. This is feeling a lot like a few years ago when I believe we didn't get a single penalty all year until we got two in one of the last games (if not the last) of the season. Yeah we've slipped up a lot as a team too but big clubs slip up too and the rub of the green in decisions can help patch over some cracks during a rough patch. We seem to never get that benefit of the doubt -- for one very fortunate decision against the RS we have 5-10 which went against us. It has not "evened out" for us this year (nor over the course of the last few years).

Not conceding the throw in mate? It was quite fortunate like............

Mebbe they have but i don't give a flying about other clubs, only ours n what we have to watch.
Wanna see good football not ruined by clueless fools.

Whilst I agree and admire your commitment to us, we are at risk of sounding like victims of something that isn't just happening to us.
