Should Ellis Simms be recalled if possible.

I think it's a bad idea unless we're gonna guarantee him playing time until the end of the season, if not let him carry on with Sunderland. If you bring him back you're basically admitting that Calvert Lewin is crocked and you don't expect him back or else if he is fit you're gonna have Simms just floudering in the u21s for no reason when he could be playing proper football on loan. Also let's be honest is he even anywhere near good enough for this level yet? Would be incredibly short sighted but maybe the manager feels that's the last throw of the dice he has to save his job, bad form though because it's potentially effecting a young lad's career attempting to throw him in when he's not ready just because of our own incompetence.

I think the time is now where survival matters more than almost anything, including potentially derailing a young player’s optimal career development.

There aren’t many plays we can make. This is one that seems fairly straightforward to me.

He’s not the answer but he’d definitely get plenty of time off the bench. He’s at an age and experience level where that’s fine to be honest.

Agreed.

Whats the worst that can happen?
As the poster above says, it could be harmful for Simms’ development.

But I doubt he’d see it that way. If Lampard recalls him, he’ll know he’s wanted now and ought to jump at that opportunity.

I also think we need to close our eyes and chuck whatever we can reach into the meat grinder.

We need to throw everything we can at the situation.

I understand it in fairness, I just think it's incredibly bad form but yet again shows what a mess the club is in. You're also pushing Cannon back down again too, so it's not just Simms that we're potentially derailing. The biggest thing about it I think is this lad surely can't be good enough to make the difference for us becasue they all deemed him not good enough in the Summer and sent him out, if they thought he was good enough then they'd have saved £12m on Maupay and kept Simms instead.

Like I said I think it's just incredibly short sighted.

Lampard, who is one of several managers with an interest in the Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga, said: “We have the ability to recall Ellis and we are considering that. It will be my decision first and foremost. There is a balance of what is best for Ellis and what is best for us and to get him in a position to be ready to come in and score goals.
