Needs to go better now than later. He spent a lot of money. 2nd half yesterday was the worst I have seen. No clues how to attack, we know how he has reduced our defence. Next 3 games are important and we need to win 1 of them. He really could get us relegated if not this year the next one. Royle, Kendall, Pulis can do the job. I was no fan of Moyes but we never felt he can get us relegated. Martinez is like Mike Walker as far as I am concerned
Put the sherry down.

Martinez took over Wigan from Bruce who had them finish 11th, with GD -11 with 45 conceded. RM first season at Wigan finished 16th with 79 conceded (GD -42). Then finished 16, 15, 18. In his time, Goals Against...73, 62, 61, 79. Previous 4 seasons finished 11, 14, 17, 10, Goals Against 45, 51, 59, 52. EFC, quo vadis?
Sack the fool now....
Trial by stats.....FIFA mode engaged.

I remember going to see Newcastle around xmas time the year they went down. I was up there for a weekend and nothing to do. What Worring is the similarities. They were rubbish. The famous atmosphere was nowhere to be scene. It was dead just like second half goodison. The players looked rudderless. The fans thought they were too good to go down as they thought there was worse below them. They were wrong..... Forget bout tactics. Our managers philosophy of winning back the ball and intensity is a joke. I could manage the reserves at a night game at goodison with a pissed off crowd and a bad ref and win. He can't tap into that. Muppet.

Yet there he is, a manager of a team in the top flight of English football, and you are tapping away at letters on a keyboard, shaking with rage.

Yes, he has made mistakes, but as others have said it's a learning process for all, the reaction of the so called 'senior' players has been abysmal.

The whole club is suffering a bit of a crisis of confidence right now, no way will they go down....I expect we will end up with 50-55 points. We took a lot of teams by surprise last season and that has now been countered to a certain extent. Be patiant and see how it evolves.

The Kopite style cryarsing is very "nu-fan.'

Hear hear Dave.

Progress is never in a straight line and I'm sure RM is learning a lot about himself and his players in this difficult period.

Clearly he has a plan in terms of the development of the team and the style of football we play. The application and the benefits of this are not currently what we would wish, but the man has earned the time to see it through to fruition.

We're not going to get relegated, and yes we'd like to be league wise where we where this time last year but we must keep faith in him .
I'd hope that even if we stay precisely where we are in the league this season the vast majority will stick with the manager and reason that he's earned at least the right to get things moving in the right direction again next season. After grumbling, I'm sure they will.

It would be a tragedy for this club to turn away from this style of play and employ some of the neanderthals suggested on this forum overnight. Give Martinez time and a bit of cash and he'll take us with him to the sunny uplands we all want to get to.

So how often did you cough up similar for Moyes? Keep rewriting mate.

Absolutely no. Let us see how things are in another 12 months when he will have had a fair crack at the job and if things are no better maybe, just maybe, think about change.

I'm inclined to agree. While obviously things simply aren't good enough at present, surely we must recognise that we've had a ton of injuries, and when coupled with what may simply be bad form, results have taken a dip.

Was angry yesterday, but having slept on it, this is bad bad knee jerking.

I agree he needs to do something to correct this though. It isn't good enough.
It's not good enough by a long chalk mate. I've been tearing into Martinez all season myself for the teams he picks and the lack of in game changes. He needs to step up himself, no question.

The cure suggested by (thankfully a tiny) minority on here though is worse than the disease. How anyone's mind looks at what's going on and comes to the conclusion that the manager leaving and employing some troglodyte like Alardyce or Pulis is the best way of resolving it is completely bizarre.

All need to improve: manager and players, but mostly these players who have done nothing much to arrest this slump in form.

A quick glance at the poll results here suggest most folk are prepared to be patient.

The key is, how long are we patient for? Remember Moyes 17th place in his second season? He still got time and went on to improve us - Martinez can do the same.

The players simply have to shoulder some of the blame for our crap form.

All to easy too blame the manager 100%.

Him and the ones on the pitch need to pull their socks up, P45's are a bit premature.

Yes the players need to shoulder some of the blame, but when it becomes obvious a player is not performing, you have to drop them.
Plus, this slow style of play is not beneficial in the premier league.
Not saying he should go, but he needs to reassess what he is doing.

Yep, senior players have not stood up at all this season.

Jags, despite being club captain isn't a leader, how often have you seen him bollocking team mates after shipping (another) goal?

Distan (alledgedly) had a sulk and was given time off.

Barry, not his fault he's been injured but I really think his fitness has simply fallen off a cliff.

Pienaar, when fit, doesn't look interested at all, or last season for that matter.

Howard? The whole "Ministry of Defence" thing has got to his head. It's a long shot but I hope Robles plays a blinder on Sunday. I can't bear 3.5 more years of him failing to leave his line to claim balls on the edge of the 6 yard box.

A bit off-topic but here is my football manager bit.

As we don't have 2 'reliable' wingers I hope we have a go with a counter-attacking 4-3-3.

Usual back 4, Besic, Barkley, McCarthy, then Mirallas, Kone, Lukaku.

The rest can be rotated in and out as and when needed.
