A quick glance at the poll results here suggest most folk are prepared to be patient.

The key is, how long are we patient for? Remember Moyes 17th place in his second season? He still got time and went on to improve us - Martinez can do the same.
I expect this to be turned around this season, tbh. I dont believe for a second we'll be languishing this far down the table by the Spring.

The knee jerkers are going to look pretty daft in a couple of months time, IMO.

Don't think he should be sacked, no. But what I would like to see is for Martinez to grow a pair and man up a little bit. Comes across as too gentleman-like and polite most of the time, which is fine, but I think that actually it has a poorer effect on the players' attitude than positive. No more Mr Nice Guy, Martinez please. Time to step up and give the squad a swift kick up the arse. Results have been unacceptable lately.

Coming at it from the other direction, if it was my decision to make the following would never put on an Everton shirt again:

Distin
Jagielka
Osman

Their attitude stinks and they're not up to the task of playing for us. If I was manager they'd be sitting at home now looking for a new club.

This 100 %.
Distin has been goin through the motions all year.
Osman and Howard release books mid season.
They dont give a [Poor language removed].

I remember going to see Newcastle around xmas time the year they went down. I was up there for a weekend and nothing to do. What Worring is the similarities. They were rubbish. The famous atmosphere was nowhere to be scene. It was dead just like second half goodison. The players looked rudderless. The fans thought they were too good to go down as they thought there was worse below them. They were wrong..... Forget bout tactics. Our managers philosophy of winning back the ball and intensity is a joke. I could manage the reserves at a night game at goodison with a pissed off crowd and a bad ref and win. He can't tap into that. Muppet.
I don't remember any mass hilarity of the supporters at this as you call it 'joke' last season....even the p/poor elements of the media were heralding RM's approach. People need to calm down...put some Pampers on and realise that these players don't turn to water overnight. We need to get the ones returning from injury up to speed then think about the ones that need to go.

He needs to change things that are not working.
He also needs to get the fight back into the players

Yep, senior players have not stood up at all this season.

Jags, despite being club captain isn't a leader, how often have you seen him bollocking team mates after shipping (another) goal?
.

You'll probably think this crazy, but part of me thinks Moysey promoted Jags to captain because he knew Jags isn't a natural and vocal leader. Moyes knew he was going from around early January and yet one of his final acts was to make Jags club captain... And Martinez and everyone else for that matter simply went along with it.

No disrespect to Jags, but the new manager should have talked to him and said, "Moyes has gone, I'm the manager and you have to expect me to decide who will be the club captain, and if I choose to change it from you to someone else, accept it as my decision and not a personal slight on you."

The even worse thing right now is that doesn't appear to a genuine captain amongst the squad.

Not sure I buy into the Moyes conspiracy theory, but you are right, just because the 'old' manager made him captain doesn't mean it needs to remain that way. Thing is though, he SHOULD be more of a leader, supposedly around the peak of his career, plenty of England caps, respected by many.

Our most vocal defender is Stones, from game one he wasn't shy about giving grief to his teamates when they underperformed.

Coleman has a good shout in him but usually at himself, he got REALLY frustrated yesterday when Howard gathered a loose ball and bowled it out to Jags on the edge of the 'D' rather than a 40 yard overarm to Coleman who had acres of space ahead of him.

Club captaincy doesn't concern me so much as on-field leadership. Jags is fine as Club captain in the sense of it being a PR-type role, saying nice things in the media, making appearances at hospitals, charity events and community projects. But in terms of on-field leadership he's a non-factor and always has been. My choice for game captaincy, in order of preference, would be Baines, Coleman, Eto'o, Mirallas and McCarthy.

On paper we have a very good team, better than the RS. Something has to change at the top if this continues into next season, there's no excuses.

Finishing in the bottom half is a disaster, no doubt. The £3ish million lost in prize money will see players out of the door.
