Silly Season January 2014

I've seen Nahkto play once, I know you know the russian league well and he seems like he's decent on the ball, and for a free i'm sure he'd be worth bringing in? what do you think of him. I do like Mcgeady myself, don't get me wrong i'm not going to rave about him but he never seems scared of taking people on, and with the way we play i think he'd fit right in and cause a lot of trouble bringing him on or even starting to wear players out.

With regards to next year i think we'll have a few million saved away for targets and i'm sure it'll be different types of targets depending on where we finish. If we get europe i think we'll get a bit of a high profile striker in.

What people do need to clock on to is we don't really need a 'natural finisher' or 'poacher' that's not how we play, and under martinez we won't play like that. What we need is a player who is strong and technically gifted, our striker plays more as a player who helps bring the midfield and wingers into the game, holding the ball and laying it off. So we need a striker who is good with his back to goal but can also pick a decent pass. Obviously finishing is still important but i think those previous traits are more important for the way we play! who is out there that plays like that, i'm not sure, not for me to decide!

I don't think we necessarily do. I look at the types of player Rooney, Aguero & Suarez are and there not your stereotypical No.9's, players with a big physical presence and play with there back to goal and hold the ball up that way and bring others into the game.

there much slighter but have great movement and are great at getting into them pockets of space and dragging CB's into unchartered territory which opens up gaps at the back for on running midfielders to exploit. They also have great touch and footballing brains and can get on the ball and make things happen, but more importantly, they still get in the box and score plenty of goals, and all types of goals.

The likes of those 3, not so much Rooney this season under Moyes, play in a possession based side and really do add to that by being a different lone man upfront and it suits there clubs styles of play and that's why I think we don't necessarily need a big man upfront who stays right up top, fighting the CB for balls, a little nimble striker with brilliant movement and good footballing brain that obviously scores goals would definitely suit us just as much with the way we play these days, but finding them with limited funds is very hard to do!.

I'm hoping, if it is a pre-contract.. (i still think it might be a deal for the here and now) that we're using it to massively lower spartaks price because we're getting him already.

Yeah, Spuds did a similar thing with Holtby last year

heres a question;

Would you all be happy if we signed no-one this window but announced that Gomis (think he is), Ince, McGeady and Fernando will be joining in the summer?

Hmm, not really but they would be good signings for us in the summer. Gomis isn't bad and for free I don't know why we wouldn't be interested?

Would be well pleased if we could sign Fernando, quality player.

Is tadic a number 10 ? Play behind the striker ? Is he really what we need ? Taught we would need cover for Barry and McCarthy ?

I'd be very surprised if we was in for Tadic this month mate but yeah, he can play as the No.10 but also can play on either wing. He's very versatile when it comes to the attacking midfield spots.

He's a winger mate, a bit like Pienaar but better imo. Not the fastest (faster than Pienaar), but likes to drift into space to provide service rather than whip a cross in.

Probably a summer target if true. Would be my ideal replacement for an ageing Pienaar

Definitely, although I think Mirallas will eventually take over from Pienaar on the left. Tadic would be brilliant on the right cutting in and getting involved though

Just reading Greg O'Keeffe's Jan transfer blog on the Echo cos I didn't see it previously, and found this answer to a question interesting!

Adam Williams on Facebook said who would you like to see come in?

"Hello Adam,

"Everton's team is very strong throughout and has a lot of quality. However, I believe another striker to help share the workload up front would be a positive move.

"I also like Fernando Reges at Porto and think he'll make a top defensive central midfielder."

When asked 'Who would you like us to sign', out of any possibilities he only mentions Fernando of Porto?! Does he know something we don't?! Would love it IF we was back in for him!
