yes a few times, never seems to stand out and always seems to miss sitters. from memory was on the bench quite a bit but that may of been under coyle so doesnt count.

up until 18th of Jan, 27 games played in total including Europa League, 2 as sub it seems

We are an anomaly when it comes to the top 7 or so in that we can't just chuck money at wonderful back up players who can slot seamlessly into the first team when required. The quality of the first team is high but for the bench the quality drops off a cliff face and has in recent years. Raising the standard of the bench means we are a lot less reliant on 13 or 14 players to play full tilt for a season and effectively carry those coming from the bench. The players you mention, McCarthy aside, are backups.

We should be signing someone who knocks a first-team player on to the bench...that's how we improve our squad. Not by adding more chaff on the bench.
