I agree we never change , same every year
Fans are included in creating a defeatist mentality (in fact fans are the biggest culprit). Ultimately a club is a reflection of its fans. The RS have been called a cult on here, and I think that’s a pretty accurate description. They believe they will win, no matter the odds.

RS path to winning the 2005 Champions League

QF vs Juventus, champions of Italy. Zlatan, Trezeguet, Del Piero, Nedved, Emerson, Cannavaro, Thuram, Buffon.

SF vs Chelsea, runaway champions of England. A machine. Drogba, Robben, Lampard, Makelele, Terry, Gallas, Cech.

Final vs AC Milan, arguably the most gifted XI on the planet. Shevchenko, Crespo, Kaka, Seedorf, Pirlo, Gattuso, Maldini, Stam, Nesta, Cafu, Dida.

Striker: Milan Baros vs Zlatan, Drogba, Shevchenko.
Attacking midfielder/winger: Luis Garcia vs Nedved, Robben, Kaka.
Full back: Djimi Traore vs Thuram, Gallas, Maldini.
Goalkeeper: Jerry Dudek vs Buffon, Cech, Dida.

Impact subs: Smicer (vs AC Milan), Pongolle and Neil bleedin Mellor (vs Olympiacos). All have Champions League winners medals.

When you have a winning mentality, your chances of winning increase. Top sides have gone to Anfield and frozen, as they are faced with a belief from the stands. The opposite is the case at Goodison where opposition teams smell the fear from the stands, hear the groans, and capitalise accordingly.

Is this the same rs, that have made the worst league title defence since Blackburn in 1995/1996? Where were you when we won at anfield? You had nothing to say then. Why are you only crawling out of your rock now?

Too many games are lost before kick off. The Moyes era in particular was like that at times.

I’m not just talking about Everton here, if most if not all clubs showed a bit more desire or bottle we would have a better league , a more competitive one. Yes there are differences in quality, however this narrative that clubs should accept certain placings indefinitely is none sense. We are talking about multi millionaire professionals playing football.

We weren’t soft in that, we didn’t bottle anything we just got beat late on by a team eons above us and who also had fresh quality players to bring on. They’ll win the cup no dramas. Just the way it is
Are you trying to say that them bringing on a fully fit De Bruyne and Mahrez was more effective than us brining on Iwobi lol

It’s really weird that people will watch that game of football and think ‘it’s all Bill Kenwright’s fault, really weird.

We got beat by the most expensively assembled squad of incredible players probably of all time and it took them 80 minutes to break us down whilst our best defender, most dynamic midfielder and best creator were all out injured.

The reasons we lost today was our last 5-10 years of recruitment have been pants until last summer and we were against the best team in the world not Bill bloody Kenwright who’s been a nothing figure since Moshiri arrived!

We have missed our fans this season, their absence has contributed to our unusually crap home form. Having said that, the fans need to do more.

Go on YouTube, watch the games from when we were crap and Goodison was only half full in the early 90’s. Our fans were louder and sang more often even in those dark days.

Overall, our performances in the cups have been absolute garbage since we last won a trophy. Look at the 'giants' who've knocked us out...

League Cup...Millwall, York City, Sunderland, Oxford Utd, Bristol Rovers, Crystal Palace (then second tier), Brentford, Leeds (then second tier), Norwich.

FA Cup... Port Vale, Bradford, Tranmere, Shrewsbury, Oldham, Reading, Millwall.

All Premier League clubs suffer the odd 'giant killing' but that is an utterly shameful record. No wonder we don't trouble the silverware.

Yes I agree to an extent but the fans can not get on the pitch and effect the game.

But I agree there's too many fans saying I've got to give the team credit because we never conceded until late and city are brilliant.

That mentality needs to get binned off. It's not just the rs that belive they can win things. Crap teams over the years have won Cups. Crap teams have qualified for Europe. Even the likes of Blackburn and Leicester have won the league.

We are a nothing club currently, but we as fans are demanding success at the same time as some fans being overjoyed that city are so good and beat us.
Its baffling.

No one is overjoyed that city are so good and beat us. We do have a world class manager, who has got some sort of a tune out of a poor squad. We were already up against it tonight, if we had everyone available. I think as long as Carlo gets the backing he needs, then he will make us winners again.

I think some are to be honest. We went out the cup again with the knife to a gunfight mentality, I think no matter who was playing for Everton we still wouldn't have tried to win that game tonight. Hopefully the club back him thats are only shot at some form of success.

Yeah and you are a glass half empty person.lol That was the best team in europe we played, and we gave it a good go. We've beaten the reds at their own dunghole, and that rs side have been shown up as one season wonders. Ancelotti has done very well, with what is a poor squad. He is the man that will return this club to glory. It's disappointing that we lost, but the City side of the last decade, is one of the greatest teams of all time.
Did we give it a good go, really, truthfully? Or did we just try to stop them scoring for 90mins...be honest now!

This season was progress. No giant killings, we beat teams we should have beaten to stay in the hat. Oth quarter finals were sadly decided by the opposition being at full strength with a world class bench and is missing our best players. That is very different than going out to Milwall or Swansea. If we keep going this then at some point the draw will be better, or we’ll catch United when they are injury ravaged and we’re at full strength then do them. Consistently getting into the latter stages is how we win trophies.

One thing that has to change though is our wretched injury record. You can’t win anything without your best players available. We didn’t have them in 09 and we didn’t have them in both quarter finals this season.

Ancelotti has been knocked out by Liverpool, Man U and Man City so I think this issue may well be over with.

Listening to that lot in work the other day after the CL draw and comparing it to our outlook is unbelievable, they honestly think they will win the bloody thing this year, they've just scruffed their first win at wolves in god knows how long, are playing bloody awful but they are so,so confident/cocky about it,even checking flights for the final,we by comparison were literally beaten against city before we started.
