Single malts

Glad you enjoyed it.
I had my cousins up from Liverpool this last week and booked a visit to the new Macallan distillery. It’s a superb experience , all state of the art modern visuals while allowing you to see the distilling side too. The site has been architecturally designed to blend into the landscape, eco friendly etc. They’ve spent £140 mill on this new distillery including a state of the art visitors warehouse which is well worth seeing too - we nearly skipped it. You get the usual tasting experience of four whiskies, but if you like climbing up steps, seeing liquid flowing, steam drips down your neck and the varying smells you get at the smaller older distilleries this may not be for you. But we’ll worth a visit if you are in Speyside/ Craigelachie area .

Thanks for the tip. I still have a few days left up here so I’ll try and convince my missus to play chauffeur for one last time. Really impressed with the Glenmorangie setup and what they are doing with Marine conservation. Loving it up here

Single malts, blends and any other form of liquid gold

My favourite is an Islay variety called Bunnahabhain, but I know a few on here favour the peaty ones. I would say Caol Isla is my favourite peated one.
I can't talk on this subject in terms of singles.

If you do manage to get down to the Macallan distillery it’s just across the river from Craigellachie, which is worth a quick visit. Then follow road and Spey river from Craigellachie down through Rothes ( 5 more distilleries!) onto Fochabers where the Baxter’s HQ is. They’ve got a couple of nice shops and a restaurant doing fantastic pancakes which may appeal to your wife!
PS you’ll need to book distillery visit they’re quite full at the moment.

Was given a Dalmore 12 year old for my birthday by No2 son. It’s not one I’d have gone for myself, but it’s proved surprisingly pleasing , sweet taste , well balanced and I find the whiskies from this part of the Highlands are very much individually different so can’t compare it with another. Nice bottle too!

Anyone had anything good recently?

Not a lot of good scotches here, Buchanan 18 might be the best I see regularly. Never tried it, but Buchanan was one of the first whiskies I ever had, my wife bought me a bottle for my B-Day, good god, some 17 years or so ago.

However, the airport in San Andres, a tiny island closer to Nicaragua than Colombia, whose people speak some version of "English", and are their own distinct Afro-Carribean diaspora, had a bottle of Lagavulin 16 in the DuFry. Enjoyed that one. Lasted about a month, from October through my b-day last week.

Headed to TN in a couple days for a wedding, so will be trying some of their bourbons I imagine.
