Single malts

I've heard good things about this, mainly from going to Oban.

Oban is such a boring place though... Happy I don't have to go back there a few times a year anymore lol

I worked at a hotel/bar and Black Bottle was the "home" drink, banners outside and all. We had a deal with them and everyone seemed to love it! You also get a free one of them with your room if you're staying in the hotel, which is 50% of the reason people liked it imo...

I even nearly bought a bottle for my dad, but seeing as both me and him are fans of single malts (hence me being here lol) - I bought him a bottle of Bunnahabhain 12 for his 50th birthday, which is absolutely fantastic. Wanted to get an Everton kit for him as well, as he's one of us, but couldn't in the end, like...

At the same bar I had Laphroaig and that was also really nice, has to be said.
I managed to make 3 distilleries whilst up there, Blair Athol, Glen Ord and Talisker. The Singleton at Glen Ord which usually goes out to SE Asia was nothing much to write home about. Blair Athol was nice (whisky and tour) but because they have been taken over by Bells they go over board with the Bells brand which is a shame because the Blair Athol Single malt really is worth a look at. Finally Taliskers. I love Skye and I like Taliskers. I had read some poor reviews about Talisker Storm and was disappointed that that was the taster. I was wrong, it's a lovely dram. Not sure what to make of all these NAE but Storm was pretty damn moorish. The only other bottle (little one) that I got whilst up there was a Glen Goyne 15 (yet to try)

Duals, Bunnahabhain is ace, what a present. Glad to hear your dad is a blue too! Don't underestimate some blends though, a few can be nice, Black Bottle for example.

Oban is an ace distillery to visit, and I've also been to Talisker, in fact that was the first one I went to in 1994 I think. The measures they gave out free were about half a pint! Glenmorangie has always been a good day out too, if you're up that way. Glenfarclas too.

He's been a fan since the early 80's... poor guy lol I know, I just wanted to go for a "classic". Might go for a BB next time though!

Skye also has a few good ones from what I know if you're willing to go that far! Loads of boss ones around the Hebrides in general tbh.

I think Talisker is the only one on Skye mate, did you mean Islay? There's loads on Islay.

Can one of you please post a pic of the Black bottle? You mean just the basic Chivas black?

Oban is a gem.
No mate, it's not Chivas Regal. It's called Black Bottle:

Yeah, thought there was one more close to there, Harris or something? There's quite a few good ones in/around the Hebrides, and Islay has about 10 on it's own! lol

Tbh I'm basing this on seeing my knowledge about the Skye/Harris ones on a leaflet in Oban about a year and a bit ago...

We had a discussion..

Kentucky bourbon is obviously from Kentucky only, like champagne from champagne etc etc.

But other bourbons are produced around America.

Can bourbon be made anywhere, ie outside America??
There's pretty strict laws on the production and import/export in the US, are there not? "America's Spirit" and all that.

You can technically make it anywhere, but it will most likely taste very different than it would to actual, American, bourbon, as it has a much different and rigorous production process.

Bunnahabhain is a real gem, I'd say it is deffo the whisky to give to those who want an introduction. They seem to have miniatures as well these days

Beautiful bottle. Will look into it. Am assuming just below the Oban in quality right?

I would be an alcoholic if I lived in a cold country I have just realised
It's a very good blend.

It really is the best, I think.

Funny you should mention, I've just picked up a small bottle of Torfa. I'll crack it tomorrow night and let you know. I can't work out how old it is but it can't be that old because they only opened a few years ago. It's 50%
Yeah these "NAS" , No Age Statement ,themes are becoming more widespread, perhaps understandable for Glenglassaugh as they need to bring in new revenue early to balance their old stock. I guess it will be between 3 -7 years old . Not a great fan of peated malt , though I always have a bottle of Lagavulin in on the basis that if visitors like peated whisky it blows all the others out of the water.would be interested on your thoughts on Torfa, just enjoy don't be put off by age.
