Single malts

Pretty rare stuff, that. How does it compare to the 16yo?

Might have been the 10, perhaps the 12. Also have Talisker (10) on the mind (Also available down here, my back-up plan) adding to my confusion and it's been so long that, well, Lagavulin could have made and bottled both in the interim.

I used to get it for $50 US around 2001-2. After deciding to make Scotch my "adult" drink (long story), went from cheap stuff to Buchanan 10 to Dalmore 10 to Lagavulin. Game over. Tried a bunch of other malts - multiple Glenmorangies and others - but Islay was my fave style, with Lagavulin king.

Then the price jumped to about $100. Ended up switching to Ardbeg for the "secret bottle" for my closest friends at my wedding.

Don't really know how to compare the two, while I had a couple bottles of the 12 before the price spike, I've only had a dram or two of the 16, many year later.

IF I pull the trigger - the mrs. doesn't seem to mind terribly, but I doubt she knows the proper price - I will try and let you know. But many years and many other malts and beers cloud the experiences.

The one thing I can say with some certainty is whether Laphroaig, Bowmore, or any other scotch I've tried, the older the better. So expectations are sky high.

Didn't have any Oban Distiller's Edition in stock at my store so went for the Oban 14.
Will try it out hopefully on the weekend.

having a great day.

decided to pull the trigger on the Lagavulin 16 at a cool cheese shop. 567,000 PYG (About $112). Maybe t was me wincing at the price, or maybe it was an "in effectivo" (cash) discount, but magically she mashed a few more keys and dropped 20% off the price.

look forward to enjoying a dram or two tonight.

let us know how the beaut goes down ;)

Two drams for Jozy's brace.

Rough, but that's the way, uh huh uh huh, i like it...

Trying to intro some Paraguayan amigos in the craft beer scene to Scotch beyond Johnny Walker. Looking forward to sharing some with them and gauging their reaction.

Worth it as an infrequent treat.

When it runs dry will prob go back to Talisker 10 as it's also really enjoyable, but if i can score the discount again it's 2 fer 1 compared to Lagavulin.

Update. Drank a glass of this little beaut with my sister and father for Father's Day tonight...just beautiful.

Sweet , smooth wih a lovely finish.

Once again Oban leaves all of us impressed.

Highly recommend the 14 at its price range. $50 cheaper than the Distiller's Edition over here, but in many ways just as good.

Oban rocks ;)

For some reason, lots of very good offers at Tesco right now http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/groc...tesco.html?_fdeals_filter=isoffer&store=Tesco including Ardberg with a tenner off!
Had my cousins up for a visit a few weeks ago , both Blues from Liverpooland, managed to finish off 3 partly full bottles including my favourites Highland Park 12and 18 . Day after they left I wandered into my local Tesco and picked up the HP 12 at £8 off. Delighted!! The 18 year old will require a trip to Gordon & Mcphails specialist whisky shop to replace.

Will be enjoying a Jack Daniels white rabbit, a single barrel and a couple of wood ford reserve for the rugby tonight.

I really like the Old Pulteney 12. Can often be found for £25 which is a snip. I'm on the Auchentoshen American Oak which is distinctly meh. It'll do for now

Yeah even though I was half-cut when the glass was thrust into my hand - I could still (just about) savour the taste.
