Single malts

A round up of whats on offer and where!
Tullibardine 225 Sauternes Cask Finish £35 Sainsbury. Sounds interesting with a sweet taste to it.
Aberlour Malt Whisky Double Cask 12 Years Old £25 Sainsbury. I wasn't bowled over by it but decent for the price. The 10yo is available for £21.00 at Morribobbins which is good value.
Old Pulteney 12yo ASDA £24. SNAP THEIR FOOKING HANDS OFF
The Glenlivet Founder's Reserve Single Malt Scotch Whisky- Sainsbury £24. I've only had a glass but it seemed ok to me but I had already had a couple. It's a NAS which seems to be a bit of a trend lately. Not knocking it but you have to wonder what is in it for the distilleries.
The Glenlivet French Oak Reserve 15 Years Old- Tesco £35. I much prefer the 18 yo and would rather buy the cheaper 12 yo.

Interested to hear from you fine lads how The Macallan whiskey would compare and stack up against my favourite Oban Distiller's Edition ($135) and newly acquired little gem the Oban 14
I won a bottle of The Macallan Gold in a raffle the other month and I've really enjoyed it. ( one of the nice things about Scotland is that you often get a reasonably decent whisky in a raffle.!) It's not one I'd have chosen as its " NAS"' no age specified, but it's pretty good. I'd recommend most Macallans, can't say I've tried them all, a great Speyside whisky, but chose wisely as some will be way overpriced.

I've just finished a bottle of Ardmore NAS Traditional Cask which is peated 46%. I can't remember where it came from!, as there aren't many Ardmores around, not that it's unique just most goes into blends. Last year I got diverted from the A96 on the way home and ended up driving past the distillery, not realising it was there as its really on the eastern edge of Speyside tucked out of the way. Maybe that stuck in my mind causing me to buy a bottle. Anyway, if you like a smoky peat whisky that isn't as strongly peaty as the Islay malts then this is worth a try. I'll certainly pick up another bottle if I come across it.

Moray - " Malt Whisky Country" as the signs say when you enter. Great place to live , but isolated it takes about 5 hours just to get out of Scotland from where I live . Weather is good on the Moray coast regarding rainfall, but temperatures are usually at least 4 or 5 degrees colder than rest of UK just cos it's so far north. Mind you it was 20 odd degrees last week.

The oil industry dominates even 60 miles away from Aberdeen which is pure oil focus and going through a bad time jobs wise at the moment. Towns are not big towns , there are a number of big employers dotted about , just about everybody I know who wants to is employed. There's good support if you want to start a business / become self employed. Wages I guess are maybe lower, except for oil industry, but house prices are significantly cheaper.

Sounds good to me!
Haha yep it is. You may have trouble with the language at first in some areas, a strong dialect called "Doric" is used. A "loon" for instance is a male person, maybe a youngster , often used in a friendly manner e.g. " Fit like ma loon?" As with anything, try the area first for a spell if it is a big commitment.
