Where would be play?
--------------- Jelavic
-- Pienaar ----- Fellaini ------- Mirallas
I've listed multiple options that includes Mirallas and LD and Pienaar - I think
all three should be on the pitch:
Jelavic - Mirallas
Pienaar - Fellaini - Gibson - LD
Jelavic - LD
Pienaar - Fellaini - Gibson - Mirallas
Jelavic - Fellaini
LD - Gibson - Pienaar - Mirallas
Jelavic - Fellaini
Mirallas - Gibson - Pienaar - LD
The two people that lose out in these line-ups are: Osman and Naismith. Until Naismith proves he can do anything, that's fine with me. Osman is a bummer. But Fellaini in the middle we need (regardless if he's in midfield or with Jelavic), Pienaar could play in the center, and Osman does not play as well as Mirallas, LD and Pienaar on the wings. He can sub someone centrally.
Benefits:
LD + Mirallas = pace. More specifically, two players with pace that could actually support one another.
LD + Mirallas + Pienaar = creativity feeding Fellaini, Jelavic. Gibson is the cleaner and midfield distributor.
Depth
Off the ball movement galore.
Interchangability. These players are very used to playing multiple positions, and it would benefit us to be able to change it up during the game.
Finishing ability from multiple players (unless you want to see Neville take another ill advised chip shot).
Someone with pace playing off of Jelavic to stretch defenses. Fellaini doesn't do that as much, but you still keep him in and you have a major target for crosses in addition to his midfield play.
Bench: Osman, Naismith, etc.
Not too shabby that, and not an aging decrepit team either.
