Sir Landon Of Donovan

I'll take players that help us win. Winning=money. Then we buy younger players. That'd be my model at least.

Landon Donovan can come in, do rubbish and not be resold because of his age.

Kevin Mirallas can come in, do rubbish - and then be sold for about 20% what we paid for him because he's young.

Not a club which can waste money at the moment.

Where would be play?

--------------- Jelavic
-- Pienaar ----- Fellaini ------- Mirallas

I've listed multiple options that includes Mirallas and LD and Pienaar - I think all three should be on the pitch:

Jelavic - Mirallas
Pienaar - Fellaini - Gibson - LD

Jelavic - LD
Pienaar - Fellaini - Gibson - Mirallas

Jelavic - Fellaini
LD - Gibson - Pienaar - Mirallas

Jelavic - Fellaini
Mirallas - Gibson - Pienaar - LD

The two people that lose out in these line-ups are: Osman and Naismith. Until Naismith proves he can do anything, that's fine with me. Osman is a bummer. But Fellaini in the middle we need (regardless if he's in midfield or with Jelavic), Pienaar could play in the center, and Osman does not play as well as Mirallas, LD and Pienaar on the wings. He can sub someone centrally.

Benefits:
LD + Mirallas = pace. More specifically, two players with pace that could actually support one another.
LD + Mirallas + Pienaar = creativity feeding Fellaini, Jelavic. Gibson is the cleaner and midfield distributor.
Depth
Off the ball movement galore.
Interchangability. These players are very used to playing multiple positions, and it would benefit us to be able to change it up during the game.
Finishing ability from multiple players (unless you want to see Neville take another ill advised chip shot).
Someone with pace playing off of Jelavic to stretch defenses. Fellaini doesn't do that as much, but you still keep him in and you have a major target for crosses in addition to his midfield play.

Bench: Osman, Naismith, etc.

Not too shabby that, and not an aging decrepit team either.

Still not seeing how acquiring Mirallas prevents us from getting LD to supplement the team. I don't care about resale value now, we have enough young players for that. I care about winning this year and building a team that can threaten. With depth you can do that. Without depth, 1 injury to Mirallas and we're back to not having a right winger.

With everything we have seen what makes you think that would possibly happen? I understand what you're saying, but at this point I'll take a proven 30 year old over a 20 year old who might or might not make it. Finishing 7th will not help anything.

Tim Cahill was ace when he was 30.

After 31..

Well..

We'll leave it at that.

That's nice. Have you seen LD play in MLS lately? Bringing up a comparison that has nothing to do with Landon Donovan's person, health or ability...has nothing to do with Landon Donovan. You judge him based on his own performance. Based on the numbers he's been putting up, he's doing just fine. His pace at that old age of 30 remains among one of the fastest players in the league.

Again, all signs point towards him not being expensive. I don't understand why we wouldn't want him on the cheap to rapidly improve our team.

Sorry guys n girls, but the question of whether or not Keane would be released is terribly irrelevant, because he is badly, BADLY Adam. I'd rather have Anichebe up front.

With Kay here, for every Cahill brought up I'll bring up a Giggs.

You lose pace pretty quickly.

And the MLS is absolutely nothing to the EPL.

Yet, he has done it in the EPL twice. And a slower Donovan would still be faster than almost our entire squad.

Faster than Coleman?

Faster than Distin?

Faster than Baines?

Not a chance lad.

I would like to see Landon Donovan back at the club, but if we're being held to ransom for anything over £3m plus £40k p/w in wages - then I'm gonna say no because he's an old man.

Again. Please find in my post where I said that MLS = EPL. Oh hey, you can't. But it's not a "jarg league."

So, moving on from that. He would be one of our fastest players we had even at his age if we brought him over. Today. If you have a crystal ball that can forecast what his pace is like in 3 years, good luck with that. Jelavic could fall off a cliff tomorrow too. Oh by the way, Distin? Still fast.

Same as Coleman, not faster than Distin, and faster than Baines. Clearly, you have not watched him play this year.

And if the old man comment is your bar, then guess you didn't want Pienaar back. He's older by a week or two.

It's dependent on the deal for me, the problem is - he's your lots captain, so you're gonna have an obscure, maybe tinted view of how good he actually is.

It'll be good if we get him, but only for the right price.

Pienaar doesn't sprint around like Donovan, he can do stuff with the ball at feet.

Distin is probably the fastest player we've got, so I would imagine that he'd be faster than Donovan.
