Sir Landon Of Donovan

The Landon love-in instils mixed feelings for me.

He's a big flirt. Tiny little flashes here and there but then he's off. I can't help but think if he really wanted to come here he'd do a bit more about it.

I'd rather reserve my adoration for people who are actual Everton players, anyway.

i think if he was anywhere but the US this would be the case. he does seem to "get" what playing for everton is about, not as much as timmy cahill though

He talks the talk, now Landon lid walk the walk* or shut it.

*if it's financially viable, like.

Yeah, the fact that he's not an everton player and yet gets 366 pages of people kissing his ass bugs me too. Same with pienaar early this summer.

You love us that much lads, then just fecking sign for us.

PSG are breaking my hart. Cherry picking my favourite players and then being gash.

I say sign him up asap if he cost no more than £4/5 million, but I can't see that being the case unless we wait until January. I'd offer him a 2 year contract with the option for a year extension if he's still going strong a la Distin. He's definitely for extra strength in depth in attacking areas.

Ok look at it this way.

Landon Donovan signs in, aged 30. 5 year deal at £50k p/w (around £2.6m a year).

So it's £5m + (£2.6m * 5) = £18m.

£18m for a player who we're gonna get about 2 good years from, and then for him to be unsellable.

No.

Not at all.

Who said £5m?
Who said a 5 year deal?
Who said 50k a week?!?!

I would wait until January to sign him. His final match in MLS last season was November 20th. His first match on loan was January 4th and his final match was February 11th. He immediately went into training with the Galaxy and had his first match with the Galaxy two weeks later. He's going to need a break at some point. Give him a month to recharge in December, then sign him.

I dont think he will join to be fair - we will look at other postitions now.

That said im a big fan of backing as much quality in the squad as possible and Landon is - quality.

Id have him here on a decent deal all day long, even if hes not priority given we have strengthed in his areas. His versatility offers options and i suppose overall i think hes a very good playmaker besides his pace and could see him come inside to central midfield or in the hole as his legs get worn - so not that bothered by pace or age.

I think people are wrong when they say he has no resale vlaue as well, where do old pros go to wind down thier career? The Americas. We would get a few sheckles for him given his profile and marketability over there.

Donovan would be a great signing. The fact of the matter is that he would improve our team...now. Moyes has rightly brought in some younger players with potential but every club needs proven quality and experience. Pienaar offers this, as does Donovan. The resale value shouldn't dictate the ability of the first team otherwise we will turn into more of selling club than we are now.

The problem with signing Donovan lies in the convoluted transfer rules that the MLS imposes on it's players. If I understand the system correctly, the LA Galaxy don't even "own" Donovan, the league does or some bs like that. Regardless, I don't think we'll get him, we're pretty solid on the winger side of the squad. While we're talking Americans though I would love to bring in Stu Holden so long as he regains fitness he had prior to injury. Lad had Bolton in 4th while he was healthy.

We might get him but I feel like this whole thing has dragged a bit too long and signing him on a permanent deal would more or less be a risk. More Mirallas / Naismith type of signings, MoYLeTr0n, and I'm happy.

Quite sure LCAB has told us numerous times he won't be over until November.

On his twitter yesterday he said we may have him before the window is closed. So Everton is interested and is trying to acquire.

He also said that LD wants to come and that MLS is blocking. So I have no idea what folks are talking about in this thread where they say he's wishy washy. He's not wishy washy. The league is a business.

Also, there are folks in this thread that are underrating him. As someone who has watched him for 10 years, it's sad. Chico is right.
