It's sad. Chico is right.
On his twitter yesterday he said we may have him before the window is closed. So Everton is interested and is trying to acquire.
He also said that LD wants to come and that MLS is blocking. So I have no idea what folks are talking about in this thread where they say he's wishy washy. He's not wishy washy. The league is a business.
Also, there are folks in this thread that are underrating him. As someone who has watched him for 10 years, it's sad. Chico is right.

When and why did he sign his current contract with MLS?
Come on Kay, it's not sad if people don't rate him as highly as you.
I think it's a double edged sword, being American. Yes you've seen him a lot but I think you're slightly biased too.
He's a quality player for sure but he's not world class as some have said. If he was 25 I'd be desperate to sign him admittedly, but he's not and one 30ish signing in Pienaar is enough for me. We've lost Rodwell who was only 21 and until Barkley was our best prospect. We need younger blood.
But if LD is cheap and has reasonable wages I'm all for it. He's versatile and doesn't need bedding in.
Sorry, let me be specific. I find it sad that someone who had such an impact here and has been nothing but positive for this club engenders some posts writing him off and saying that people are "kissing his ass." He has been nothing but class for this club, and find the reactions to him and his efforts here to be somewhat offputting.
He's my favorite player, and I am biased. Still find it offputting.
He is not Messi. I also don't think he's just a "good player" with his statistics. That's all. Not arguing he should be winning the Ballon D'or or anything. I think most of the people in this thread aren't saying he's so world class we should go all out. We are saying he's a very good player (I would probably inflate that a bit, but I wouldn't argue) that could contribute to this team. But yet some are putting him out to pasture even with his performance in the last few months and no evidence of him losing his speed or playmaking ability. I argue with those that say he's just average, just relies on his pace or that he didn't contribute hugely here. And argue with those who quote numbers that haven't really been mentioned.
Your comments by the way I have no issue with. You raise good points and good arguments and I think your last statement is astute and realistic. I think we could use another player with his skill set and experience AND I wouldn't mind getting a young winger. Was bummed about Niang.
Niang on the Don?
In the end there can be only one.
There i said it.

He signed it in 2009 to allow him to go on loan in the offseason. Without his recent contract, no loans. Also, I think in reading press he honestly felt like he still had work to do in MLS, and honestly enjoyed playing in LA. He has no problems with the domestic league as we all know. Also, in 2009 he was still grandfathered in his old contract and was at the time making a $900,000 salary annually. The new contract upped him to $2M.
Then we happened in the beginning of 2010. Had he have known Everton would have turned out the way it did, don't know if he would have signed. But he couldn't know, and he had to sign to go on loan.
Why? One is 17 and won't see our senior team for some time.
Get both, have the 17 year old benefit from time with the Don and the Mirallas.
Play the 17 year old over time. Win win.
It's become quite sad that fans of our club are more concerned about the re-sale value of a player,is that how bad it's become? we really that skint? people more concerned about the re-sale value than getting a quality player in for few seasons that could do us a very good job, gives us plenty of different options. It doesn't matter about the age of the player aslong as he does a good job for 2-3 seasons. It's pathtic how we have become. I'd love Donovan here on a fulltime basis but it's never gonna happen.
