Sir Landon Of Donovan

Bring him back for the 8 weeks and get Vadis in and we'll be sorted. I'd like to see a fully fit Kev on the left in his preferred position for a while.

Is he a better player than Mirallas? No. Is he better cover than our current options of Naismith, Coleman, Gueye or Pienaar switching flanks with Oviedo LM? Probably.

Is he worth spending big money on? No. Is he worth bringing in on loan? Yes.

Also, what ?

I don't get how on earth you can say that Mirallas is a better player tbh, he's certainly worse defensively and his decision making at times has been poor. Both times Donovan has come here he's been absolutely boss and has got the assist figures to match.

How is Donovan worse ? Pace ? Maybe. Trickery ? Maybe. But he bests Mirallas in every other area of the game. Mirallas has a long way to go.

To be honest, they're not even the same type of player. Donovan is a more orthodox wide player, he's strong defensively and offensively, and i'd be much more confident having him in the line up against a team like City or Chelsea than i would Kevin. There were a few times yesterday where Mirallas' defensive work left a lot to be desired and against better teams than Southampton we would have suffered for it.

Donovan 22 apps 2 goals
Mirallas 7 apps 3 goals

I count at least 4 assists.

So, what you think about that Stato?

Mirallas is 20 times the player Donovan is.

I reallly like Mirallas, tbh, he's tricky and always looking to drive forward. Two of our three goals yesterday he pretty much made. He's not unlike a poor man's Kanchelskis, if you like.

It's probably true that he relies on the full back providing the width in a way Donovan doesn't but that really suits the way we play. Would hate to see him dropped to the bench for a 30 odd year old.

As would i mate, but that wouldn't happen. With Pienaar gone we'd see Mirallas on the left and Donovan on the right. Anichebe will also be gone so he'd have a high chance of getting some time up front (where i'd like to see him play anyway, less defensive responsibility).

Pienaar and Mirallas, is there a better set of wingers in World Football?

I cant see it.

Ronaldo and di Maria, Valencia and Young, Robben and Ribery, Pedro and Iniesta, Hazard and Marin, Bale and Lennon etc, etc.

They're the best pair of wingers we've had since Kanchelskis and Limpar though. Not many fullbacks would fancy playing against us.

Oh, yeah which is why I want him on loan. Like I said given the ACON he's competing with Naismith, Oviedo and Gueye and he's clearly the best choice (unless one of them comes good big style and Oviedo might well do so).

But if we buy him full time he's got to replace either Kev or Pienaar to be first choice. And I'd rather he didn't.

Has Marin even played for Chelsea? He's an ace player but you can hardly call that a winger pairing when only one has really played. And I don't agree with the last one. I've always been of the opinion that Bale is a bit overrated and Lennon is uber gash. He's of the Walcott school of running really fast but doing nothing with the ball where it matters.

Although yes, obviously it was an outlandish statement from Goat.

Howard
Coleman Jagielka Heitinga Baines
Donovan Gibson Fellaini Pienaar
Mirallas
Jelavic

Problem solved. Too bad Moyes thinks Fellaini just HAS to play behind the striker.

A loan is a must with the ACON's this year. I've got nothing against a perm deal either at the right money. There's nothing wrong with having players like him on the bench/in the squad and challanging the likes of mirallas pienaar ect.

Strength in depth is essential if we're serious about challanging that top 4. And dare I say we made Europe the squad needs to grow in quality that can come in when needed.
