Sir Landon Of Donovan

Oh, I disagree strongly there. Ten years ago, maybe. But right now CBs are physically weak enough that having a player up the pitch, who will always win balls in the air is such an asset. That Outlet is really important to us and gives us the confidence to play proper football.

The argument about moving Fellaini back to me is that he's better than our other options at CM not that he's a weak spot at CAM. If I could I'd play him in both positions.

I didn't say he was weak there though, i've always said he's fine behind the striker, but he is one of if not the best 'box to box' (i hate that term) midfielders in the league.

And i'll bet you one thing, if a team does come in for Fellaini and he goes, there's no way the buying team would play him behind the striker.

If we sign Ofoe then Ossie is an option in any of the 3 advanced midfield roles behind the striker.

Oviedo can play LM. Gueye is an option, certainly against the crapper teams. Naismith and Mirallas can play RM or AM if Felli drops back.

We have a fair few options really. I'd only say we needed Landon if we got some injuries.

Osman at right wing?

Oviedo hasn't proven himself and Gueye isn't good enough, certainly not yet.

If we want to have a chance of getting in the CL then we need to be putting out the best team we physically can, our team with Donovan is a better team than without him.

Throw a couple of million at LA for 2 months worth of football, 9 assists and 2 goals in 18 games lads.

When we have 3 free-flowing attacking mids in a 4-2-3-1 it's not really the same as Ossie at RM in a 4-4-1-1. They all swap and change and it works. We did it a lot near the end of last season, and Ossie often started on the right then. But you could have Ossie behind the striker, Oviedo on the left and Mirallas on the right (my preference).

Hmm, yeah we have options. Naismith, Fellaini and Mirallas would probably be my prefence. But you're right about Osman and Oviedo being able to slip into there, too.

But are any of our options better than Donovan? I think out first team wingers are better than him but without Pienaar, I'm not sure Landon wouldn't be in our best 11.

No I agree but it's not like Landon can come for free. I'm fairly sure he'd have a hefty loan fee and good wages. I'm just not a big fan of such a short term signing. I'd rather save our cash for permanent signings, bearing in mind £5-6m has got us Jelavic and Mirallas. And £2m or so (which was rumoured to be LD's loan fee last time, I think -- although it was suggested some of that was covered by sponsorship?) got us Oviedo.

To be honest it's ace that we're now sitting here debating whether or not there is even a place for Donovan in the team after we spent the previous three seasons pretty much begging for him to sign permanently because he changed our team so much.

Options are good

Or 7 months of David Moyes.

Our wage bill is like 60 million a year. It'll be that that stops us buying players more than the actual fees and bringing in cover on loan has the advantage that we're only paying the wages when we actually need the guy.

So are we actually after The Fod on perm come January? Took me a bit of convinsing but even though he's getting a bit old I guess he would be an option and give the squad quality in depth which is needed if we are going for CL this season, but for long term I would prefer some youngsters instead.

The way i think about it mate is that even though he's 30, he is good at every part of the game that doesn't require pace. So even if his running legs start to go, he'll still have the technical ability and mind to make a good contribution. Exactly the kind of player you'd want to bring on to sure up your defence when you're holding onto a 1-0 lead. Give him a 3 year contract on a relatively low wage (30k p/w) and i'd be happy as.

My only concern would be that Donovan would prevent others like Mirallas getting appearances.
