Sir Landon Of Donovan

Let's just assume we keep the front 4 how it is and don't drop/shift around any one of Mirallas, Pienaar, Fellaini, or Jelavic.

Donovan is now the first choice substitute for almost any of those front 4 at worst. Factor in injuries, loss of form, and substitutes when chasing a game, of course he would be a good addition.

You need more than 11 players to do well.

Donovan wouldn't be a substitute in a David Moyes team. (Which is good IMO because he's the tits)

Who do you drop from our attacking four? Pienaar, Jelavic, Fellaini or Mirallas?
sod that, once gibson's back we have him as the sole holding mid and go with 5 attackers pienaar mirallas on the wings and donovan and fellaini behind the striker. Sort of a 4-1-4-1 like ye know? Sorted.

It's not about dropping one of them to put Donovan in there place full stop. It's a squad game. fatigue, loss of form, injuries and suspensions and the ability to swap quality with quality during games when we could be chasing a game or just wanting to replace a player who is tired or not quite on his game without weakening the 11 on the pitch.

If available at the right money Donovan is a no brainer. Those 3 possistions behind jelavic are crucial to us... As they are for all the top teams actually. Throw a injury or 2 into our current crop occupying those possistions and all of a sudden we'd be looking very average there. Not good enough if we're seriously looking at a top 4 challange!

Donovan will stay at Galaxy for the rest of his career imo. It wasn't long ago that he stated that he needs a rest at the end of the season and would be unlikely to come back here on loan. His contract runs out in 15 months and by that time Donovan will be too old to be of much use to us, but could probably still have a career in the MLS till his late 30's. Aside from this, Galaxy can offer him a lot more money than we can, and will do, as he's one of the biggest stars in their league.

So he could have a nice months rest before joining up with us and then eased in throughout January and being fresh and ready for the end of season push...

Sounds perfect!

Jesus... Don't think I've ever read a post with so many points I don't agree with...ha!

Ok, Donovan will stay at galaxy? Why? Yep he said he needed a rest/off season to recuperate so a loan is not something he's looking at. IMO a lot of that is because I think it's clear he wants a perm deal, which would also give him a rest.

He can go back MLS after 2/3 yrs with us which I'm sure he will...

Pienaar is the same age as Donovan. Are you saying that in 15 months he won't be of much use to us ?

Landon Donovan gets $2.3m per year from the MLS, or £1.4m in proper money. If Donovan signed a £40k per week contract he'd be earning more than the Galaxy pay him by a noticeable margin, discounting all the other benefits like playing in the best league in the world.
