Sir Landon Of Donovan

I disagree with the premise, if we're doing well this season, you play the best player regardless.

Having said that, I'm not 100% sold that Donovan is the better player at this point.

If he is still capable of playing at the same level that he did in his previous two loans, then he is vastly superior.

I disagree mate.

We need points on the board THIS SEASON. Sacrificing points now on the possibility that you may or may not achieve a better points total in the future doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

There's no guarentee that we will win more points with him. When he leaves in March the players who have been dropped may be so de-motivated that they don't perform from then on, or just rusty from a lack of game time.

Likewise we've shown enough without him to say that we're capable of getting wins against good sides.

The only thing thats certain is that players need time and games to fully adapt to the PL and show thier best form.

Donovan didn't. He came in and hit the round running like a top quality agency contractor should do.

I don't think we have shown anywhere near enough. I think we look weak and it will be no surprise to see us drop down the table in the forthcoming weeks. If we get beat on Saturday the RS will be 3 points behind us.

I'm not interested in pandering to the emotions of employees who are getting paid a quarter of a million pound every month. If they are benched then tough ****. They're supposed to be professionals FFS. If they are too weak to cope with sitting on the bench then they shouldn't be at Everton. If they don't like it, then they should try and find another club that will allow them to dictate whether they start a match or not

I'll also say that imo, Mirallas looks better in the middle the few times he's been there, and Donovan is better on the outside at this level. So I'm not sure it's an either/or situation, or at least it shouldn't be. I think the closer to goal Mirallas is, the better.

I dont understand how this turned into a discussion about who is better. Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who...

Donovan is a good player. Period. He loves Everton. Period. He get's it. Period

Sign him in January...elipsis...Period.

If that's the case then they're absolute tits.

Your not the manager. It makes no odds whether you think this is right or wrong. Managers do have to take stuff like this into account. It happens eveywhere.

Nowhere did I suggest players should dictate if they start or not.

We are discussing what we think is right for Everton. I don't think it is in Everton's interest to select a player just because benching him might hurt his feelings.

I can understand the manager of an Under10's team taking the players' feelings into account and making sure the whole squad gets a few minutes on the pitch each week. But I don't think it is right to do that when you are paying players 200,000 pound a month. They're receiving a professional wage packet, so they aught to be professional when it comes to things like team selection.

I personally think he wants to come back but on a permanent deal (I am not, nor ever have been, sourced up, this is just what I think).

Precisely.

We're talking about squad rotation here, not a player sitting on the sidelines for months on end. Taking one look at our injury record and squad depth and it's obvious that we're crying out for more players of PL quality.

Donovan can play on the right, left, or behind the striker, as can Mirallas. It's hardly a case of either or. And another thing, if we were having a CM injury crisis like we are now when Donovan was here i know who i'd pick to play CM between Osman and Donovan. Or Neville and Donovan.

If Mirallas or Pienaar were to get a long term injury then we'd be stuck with Naismith out wide, who hasn't exactly set the world alight, our squad is thin in most positions, and having Gueye has a wing back up is simply not good enough if we've got aspirations of Europe.

I don't see how what they get paid has got to do with it? If you've ever played competitive you'll know how much it does your head in getting subbed or dropped if your playing well.

Players have the power these days not managers or clubs. My point is that benching him for a player who's here for a couple of months a year might actually be worse for the club in the long run as it would or could affect the other players performance.

If you don't think thats possible fair enough. But to suggest a players mindset shouldn't be affected just cos they get good wages is a bit simplistic.

I think he's saying they shouldn't be bothered by being dropped occasionally, rather than being on the bench game after game. Obviously the latter would do your head in.

If Donovan comes back (which i think he will), then i don't see Moyes dropping Mirallas. I think he'd line the team up like this:

Howard
Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
Donovan Gibson Fellaini Pienaar
Mirallas
Jelavic

Good enough to take on any team in the league.
