Sir Landon Of Donovan

Good write up about Landon. Nothing new - just perspective on the love/hate relationship US fans have with him. His motivations/priorities have always been different for a pro athlete and difficulty to accept for some fans

Great quote from LD that says everything about him and why he worked so well at Everton
People just miss the point, says the 24-year-old California native. I just want to be happy. If Im happy, I can play with anybody in the world.

I think we're a few years too late... I love Landon he's a great player and all but.... (don't want to belittle the MLS here) EPL is a much higher standard of play... Sure in short spells he's shown he'd be a great signing. I'm not sure he'd show the same form over a season though (don't expect players to be on form all season but you catch my drift). Realistically how long can we see him lasting? How do we know he won't end up like Cahill? God forbid a Neville.....

I like how he gets Everton though, it's really nice to see.

You have to look at our record when he is in the line up and when he isn't. The fact is he would help this team. Yes the buy wouldn't net us on a resell if that would ever happen but he helps the team now. Especially when we are making a push for Europe. Another thing to consider why he does well for us is that when he is here he doesnt have to be the man. He can simplify his game which highlights his strengths. While he is slowing down he still has good pace and a very good work rate, plus he is very smart on the ball. Another bonus is he provides depth for forward, both wings and as an attacking midfield.

My hope is he wants out and asks for it from the Galaxy. They know he has paid his dues for the team and the league lets him go for a reasonable fee. The galaxy then can get younger and buy a new DP with his open slot.

Your points are valid especially about not having to be the man, I was thinking out loud really. I'm not really convinced he'd be a striker in this league though, I could never see him leading the line if Jelavic or Victor were injured. I would much prefer Vellios to start getting sub appearances, knowledge around here is him and Moyes must've had a falling out. better than signing someone like Mcfadden again in regards to Donovan though....

Does anyone have our record when Donovan has played?

I'm not against Donovan by the way. I just think it may have been better had we tried to get him earlier, finances eh?

I think he should just buy out his contract personally. Everyone knows he wants to leave, much like Modric last season for Spurs (was obviously already planning out his house in Madrid, while still giving 100% to the team). I can't see the MLS letting the superstar of their native country going easy.

MLS have a choice - keep a unhappy Donovan for another season at which point he will leave when his contract runs out probably never to return again or..

Let him have his dream move and chance to fulfil his ambitions even if its only for a few years. Take a bit of money for him and most probably get there hero back in 3 yrs time.

It's a no brainer really and landons comments show he's doing pretty much everything he can to tell MLS where he stands.

I'm 95% confident he will be wearing the No.9 shirt come January. And another thank you will be owed to the legend Tim Cahill for helping make it possible!!

What falling out? First I've read about this? Knowledge around where? Goodness I hope not! I'd love for him to come back in January and stay on a permanent deal.

I just don't think Vellios is as good as we'd initially thought he was to be honest.

I'd like to have Donovan back if it was a cheap deal. He's a good player and he'd slot right in to our system straight away. You can never have too many quality attacking players. Well, Everton can't any way.

Ok so question....

Lets say (and this is highly probable) that Davie M is told he can sign one player in January...would you want it to be Donovan - proven as a direct positive influence in our team - or someone 'unknown' therefore with a higher risk of not aclimatising to the 'Everton' way e.g. that Ofoe lad?

I have to admit I do have a man crush on LD - mainly due to the fact that he doesnt just play well in our side - he does not shy away from publically telling the world that he loves us.

So lads, unknown quantity or LD?

It shouldn't be a choice of just one player tho. We HAVE to sign a CM player and I truly believe the cash is there for that. I also believe there is cash for Donovan and a deal is already in the making.

If not.. In answer to ur question it would have to be a CM before Landon. But as said I honesty dot think that will be the case.

I want Donovan and ofoe (or simlar)

I honestly dont think he wants to come back this time..Get the impression that he's eager to wind his career down towards retirement..Although god knows he's got a few good years in him yet.

I have no doubt that Donovan would become such a huge and influential player for us.

People cite his age, but even if we only got a couple of years out of him, he would still be money well spent IMO.

I think he would make a massive, massive difference.
