and thats all she wrote lads. Its been a wonderful season and im proud that we had something to play for at this late stage of the season. We gave it a go and along the way earned a lot of respect. Thursday nights it is for us like but thats fine, its still a forward step and the Europa league is certainly a european trophy we can win.

its almost 8.30 and its starting to get dark. Those dark coloured jumpers are starting to blend in, i can't see the goal anymore and we are down a man because one of the lads had to be in at 8.15. Its time to call it a day and get off home for a jam butty.

Martinez reckoned the "psychological blow" of conceding the two own goals was the reason we weren't "ourselves" today..

Finding that difficult to accept tbh... these fellas are supposed to be professional footballers aren't they? You don't automatically just stop trying in a situation like that..

It's not about stopping trying.

Look at Naismith this season compared to last. He was trying just as hard when he first signed as he is now, difference is that he's got confidence and the support of the fans this year.

Being a professional footballer doesn't make you immune to the mental side of things.

Totally agree with this, transitional season and have achieved a hell of a lot compared to previous seasons. As much as I'm annoyed, can't change anything so just be happy with the improvement so far and anticipate further improvement next season and from then on.

Yeh, loads of positives. Can't remember the last time we scored 3+ in so many games for one.

Given Martinez has come in and changed the style of play we've done excellently in the league. I think other posters are correct when they mention players not having the right mentality in certain games, but I truly believe our manager will impact this positively in the years to come. He has to a point in winning games when we have been pegged back away from home.

Martinez will have had a season to look at players and a better idea of what he wants/needs. I'm really excited about next season and beyond. Despite today's result good times are ahead!

Don't know if losing to city would stop Liverpool winning the league but if it was nailed on then I would sacrifice one game and even a league position (5th to 6th) to stop them bleating about it for years to come. In a few years time I don't think anyone would look back and care if we had finished 5th or 6th because its still nowt in the trophy cabinet. Different matter if it was to cost us 4th place but its not.
Last year each place was worth .75million quid, presume this year it is even more.

IIRC 5th and 6th also have different routes into the Europa league. If we win the EL it will get us into the CL and even if don't it will gain us both valuable experience and cash not to mention fun away days.

I for one really care that we try to at least get 5th.

Some bad lad's on here, where were you all when we won 7 games in a row? the own goal after 53 seconds was always going to hurt us and was always going to be hard to come back from.

5th place for Martinez's first year is an outstanding accomplishment. Starting next year Europa League will have a lot more meaning.

Let's finish the job, lads.

Alcaraz isn't that bad. And nobody injured Kone on purpose ffs?
Alcaraz is behind a nineteen year-old in the pecking order at CB - by definition, he is not needed. I'll concede that back in August we had no reason to think Stones would be as good as he is, but we had Heitinga then too. Alcaraz is no better than Heitinga was. He should go.

Kone.... I don't know what to say. Starved himself (can't be good for an athlete) for Ramadan, promptly injured himself by trying to play immediately after said starvation. Bonkers. Should have kept Cheebs.

Fair enough but at the expense of Liverpool winning the league I don't care about the one position. Saying that its all ifs and buts but I would concede that position (if it would be conceded anyway) to stop them winning the league and there fans using it as a cosh against us for the unforeseeable future.

Like I said anyway...if it was nailed on then yes but its not.

PS. Off the top of your head...what position did we finish 4 seasons ago....and do you care now.

[Poor language removed] off you tithead. That's really [Poor language removed] offensive.

Everything I said was true, sorry for being annoyed at us bottling it and throwing away all the good work we did this season.

Southampton and Palace championship clubs

Wheels off in spectacular fashion

OK MATE
