Stadium Thread - ALL Kirkby/Stadium Discussion Here

I try and not get involved with these discussions as sometimes its like supporting different branches of the same religion, much like the Peoples Front of Judea.

My point is that boundaries are actually not fixed, and will not be fixed in the foreseeable future. The Boundary Commission almost placed Knowsley within the Boundary of liverpool - boundaries can be changed, and I for one really dont give a fig about political boundaries.

Its the Judian Peoples Front!

That's a tired one Dylan. Boundaries were in flux at that point; they're fixed now and always will be for the forseeable.

Everton would be moving out of Liverpool for the next 100 years. But hey, we'd still be in the Liverpool City Region....with Warrington and Wrexham.

I don't really know what to say to that. Talk about blinkered vision.

I know this is going to sound really harsh, but it is attitudes like this that created Liverpool Football Club.

I am going to follow Everton wherever they play thier football, from where ever I am on this planet.

With some it's beginning to sound like you live just around the corner at the moment and can't be arsed to move four miles.
that's right! in digs up stairs at the wilmslow!

my prime concern is, as it always has been & would be for any other proposal, will the new stadium produce the additional profit needed to support moyes in the transfer market. from what we've been told so far i don't think the prospects are very encouraging.

No, shifting to Walton in 1892 was a matter of principle that needed to be done. So what it created LFC? You can't compare that with a shift to another town for convenience for the club's board.

Please dont allude to giants from our history like Mahon, Cuff and Dr Baxter in the context of today's commercial plunderers like Earl and Wyness.

You want to go to Kirkby? Fine. You're welcome to it. I'm not on board with that.

I hope nobody mentions to you that each time Everton has moved, it went outside the city limits!

I've used this (actually quite disingenuous) argument a couple of times, but to play devil's advocate, every time we've moved, we've stayed around the environs of Stanley Park. City boundary just happened to cut through it at the time.

I still believe the precise location isn't the key reason not to go, there are a multitude of better reasons why the Destination Kirkby Project is perhaps not the best option for the football club, regardless of how much an easier option it is for the Board.

So G, for you to buy off on Kirkby, there needs to be a viable transportation plan in place?

Yep, and a financial plan that isn't balanced on a knife edge.

They'd be 2 Key Points.

I'd still prefer to go through a gradual and sustainable redevelopment of GP, because it's far better suited to our circumstances, less risky, leaves us with a healthier Brand position and better future prospects.

But if the 2 above points were addressed, I'd see it as simply the wrong decision, rather than a potentially damaging one :D

Yes, that's true that in 1990 the boundary commission was willing to change the boundaries of Liverpool/Knowsley if a referendum went the way of a groundswell of support for a change. The fact that it was resisted by the people of Knowsley just demonstrates that the largely Liverpool born or 2nd/3rd generation Liverpudlians who live there feel comfortable within that borough and have established an identity there.

That geo-political entity called Knowsley is set for a very long existence and wont be subsumed into Liverpool or a 'Greater Liverpool' anytime soon.

i would stay in liverpool if its possible but if we carnt then i would happily move out of liverpool... but BK should put his hand in his pocket and redevelope goodison up or have a good look at the loop on scotty road

Howarth says he's not going to ask to call in the scheme and he has written a letter of support for it to constituents:
EVERTON FC's planned move to Kirkby today received vital support from the town's MP. Last year, Knowsley North’s George Howarth threatened to haul the £400m project before a public inquiry if potential problems were not dealt with.
Today, he formally threw his weight behind the plans, which centre around a new home for the Blues and a shopping district dominated by a Tesco superstore.
In a letter to Knowsley residents, he said he would “choose progress” after Tesco made commitments which he believes will “bring real benefits to local people”.
Mr Howarth also said he would not ask the government to “call in” the scheme for a public inquiry as it would “leave Kirkby in limbo for at least a year” and “even jeopardise the project”.

I think there's a distinct liklihood of the conspiracy theorists jumping on this one, suggesting funny handshakes or backhanders for the volte-face.
I don't believe a word of it. This potential investment would be good for Kirkby, and there aren't many MPs who wouldn't want this level of development within their constituency (once they've made all the right noises about ensuring their constituents don't get raped and pillaged in the process).
Destination Kirkby will be good for Kirkby, good for Tesco's, and good for Knowsley as a whole.
Just not the best option for EFC. Looks like the hurdles are being cleared though:mellow:
