Steven Naismith though.

Barkley will have a fight on his hands for a starting berth when he returns. More goals and consistent performances are required rather than the odd glimpse of genius. He is young so it's all a learning curve, hope he is watching Naisy while sitting out injured.

Ross is good at creating space for himself, but he's even better when he has somebody to play off of centrally. I was looking forward to Pienaar and Barkley wall passes, flicks, and back heels.

But Ross is out for a bit and Naismith is a different player. Hopefully when both are healthy, Roberto can recognize the value of each in difference scenarios.

Naismith is are best player at the moment and never thought i would be saying that. He also seems a very nice guy, which is a breath of fresh air in this day and age. Keep it up lad..

It'll be an interesting one. I'm sure he'll develop as a player. He's only young after all. I'm not sure he's all that suited to the #10 role either. His standout moments in games tend to be individual brilliance rather than a great assist. He's been compared to Gazza, but I think Gazza was a much more natural #10 as he could both create for others and do things himself. Ross has the latter but not the former.
He's defo not a No.10. I think he'll move back into a CM role (probably in a better team than Everton sadly).

He's pretty prolific is Naisy, when playing in his natural position.

K'off Moyes for making us all hate Naismith, when in fact, he is a decent player, a natural finisher and has a great leap

The Mueller role? But where does he go once Barkley is back? Someone like Mueller can do his stuff in behind a striker and (more often than not) from wide right. He has that flexibility. Put Naismith out on the right and you'll just get the same car crash again. And Martinez wants his wingers. He's bought McGeady and brought in Atsu. Martinez wont drop Barkley once he's back, and he wont go without genuine width either.

It sounds great like "Naismith can be our Mueller".

Martinez will not be afraid to drop Barkley if another player is more effective for the team. This is a big season for Barkley, and its a pity he is injured. This should be the season he makes his mark and becomes one of the main driving forces at Everton...he wasn't this last season, thats why he missed games, or could only get a game on the wing. Potentially he is a top class player, but he has to do more than his peers( Wilshere, Oxlade-C, and the rest) at club level to earn this status. I hope he does not become another 'nearly man'.....I think he's more likely to make it but nothing is certain. Incidentally...Cleverly was atrocious for Man U today.

There's no way the rising star of the English game is sitting on a bench at Everton.

Barkley comes back and he'll be in there pretty much straight away. Quite right too.

You might well be right...but Martinez was not afraid to leave him out last season, Ross has got to earn his place...I think he will....but nothing is certain.

He is the everyman of football, he makes the game look easy by getting all the simple things right. And including him in my fantasy team was my one masterstroke of brilliance.

Once again Naismith played well and proves yet again he is more than good enough to be a first team pick. He fills his role extremely well.
I would like his strike rate to be higher, but his general play and ability to set other up balances that out for me.
I cannot understand how anyone can fail to see what Naismith brings to the team.
They must be blind, have an agenda or be a helmet.
Or maybe all three.

That's true about Martinez leaving him out last season. However, IMO the situation has drastically changed since then. Because of his form at the end of last season and his call up to the WC squad, Barkley is in the public eye more than ever and is a branding tool for us as much as a valued team player. He's the face of Everton. He's also now on a lot of cash.

You simply dont have a player like that on the bench for long.
