My question exactly

Instead we're buying a winger for 40 million and are now getting in a left back for roughly 20 million

As you say, we could have bought Tierney at 30 and then a winger at 30-35

Or better still, we could have just offered Lookman a better contract in an effort to get him to stay and then bought Tierney for 30m plus a centre back for 30-35m, which are two positions we have greater need to fill

We never needed a winger during this window. It's a nice to have. LB and CB are need to have
can see were your coming from Mikey but I don't think its the end of the incomings/ outgoings so we will have to see how it pans out at the end of the window.
for the record if his fee was less 30 million I would have taken the gamble on Tierney

I disagree quite strongly that we dont need a Winger.

I could counter that by saying we dont need a LB or a CB, but I wont, cos we really do, for me our wing options arent amazing, bar Walcott and Lookman, call me naive, but I dont think Lookman cares about money, hes not moving to RB for a pay rise, im almost certain we pay more than RB. But who knows.

Im not disagreeing with you Mikey, you would rather we do 1 thing, Brands and Silva would rather we did something else, me I would probably do something different again, it doesnt make you wrong, Brands wrong, its just different people with different ideas. For me theres something not right with the whole KT thing, we went in hard, then just limped out like a lil bish, very strange to me.

And to add, I think we will still sign a CB and LB.

Who says that the Tierney deal won't still be a possibility mate, not a single person s day ago thought we'd have the remotest chance of this lad...

I can't see how we can afford to get Tierney as well as Richarlison when you look at the fees bandied around, especially when we also need a centre back

Plus, it seems we're going for the cheaper option with Digne in he left back position

It's all falling in to place now and this appears to be the plan

What annoys me is that we didn't NEED a winger. We have wingers, lots of them

We needed a left back and centre back, but we're now going to spend less on those positions because we've gone and bought a winger for a big fee

Again, Richarlison might be boss, but we still need a left back and centre back you know?

Plus, the re-sale value of a Tierney Vs Digne isn't even in the same universe. We spend 30 million on Tierney now and we'll sell him for at least 50, and probably even more. We wouldn't get close to that for Digne

I wantes Tierney too.

But they wanted around double what Digne will cost....and all upfront.

I also think we will mate, but they'll be of lesser quality now than if we'd had more moolah to spend and hadn't spent so much of it on a position we didn't need to spend on

I personally think our wing options are fine as they are, with any potential signing in that department just needing to be a back up at best. Baines, Jags and Williams are practically done at the top level though, so we need to spend the bulk of the money on better players in that category in my eyes. Tierney is class and is as close to a no brainer when it comes to a player in my lifetime

Richarlison could be an amazing winger and I hope he will be. But for what we're likely to pay for him, Tierney would/will have been the better value for money

It just troubles me that we can't stump up the money for Tierney but then we stomp over to Watford and offer silly money for a player in a position we don't have any immediate need to refill

I mean if we dont need a winger :

Yannick Bolasie
Theo Walcott
Nikola Vlašić
Kevin Mirallas
Ademola Lookman

Then we also dont need a LB :

Leighton Baines
Antonee Robinson
Brendan Galloway

or a CB

Michael Keane
Phil Jagielka
Ashley Williams
Mason Holgate
Matthew Pennington
Tyias Browning

Cos we have loads of them.

Vlasic, Lookman and Walcott are all fine, with Mirallas still having something in the tank as well on occasion

It's not a priority position to fill

Left Back and Centre Back are far more important to us right now

Why do people believe Digne would be so much cheaper than Tierney? Digne is apparently wanted by a bunch of big clubs, and is reported to be on roughly £55K a week at Barcelona. At the start of last season Tierney was on £15K a week at Celtic.

I believe the French international would command a far higher salary and sign-on-fee than the Scottish one.

I just think we have a list Mikey, we go down the list, it appears as tho KT was top of the list for LBs, Celtic got greedy, he turned us down, who knows, for some reason we moved on, I dont think its cos Digne was cheaper personally, I mean you say hes cheaper, but I would imagine his wage demands, after playing for PSG and Barca, will make KTs seem small, so is it REALLY cheaper?

Well the fee is double for a start

If we sign Richarlason and then let Lookman go who is our back up or other option? We need both but knowing Everton Ademola is off.
