Can't agree with that. That's basically saying we're happy to go back to where we were under Martinez 3 years ago. Some exciting games, some good football at times, but ultimately not very good. Finishing 10th basically means losing somewhere in the region of 15-19 of your 38 games, which does not appeal to me.

I keep seeing people saying it will take Brands and Silva ages to 'sort out the mess they were left' but we finished 8th last year. It might take ages to get us to where we want to be, but there's absolutely no reason at all why we should accept anything lower than 8th again at the very least. If we're happy treading water in 9th-12th for a couple of seasons while we sort ourselves out then fine, but we don't need to be signing £40m players if that's the plan, we really should be able to finish there with a positive net spend.

We finished 8th with 49 points though mate. I think people might accept a similar performance if they can see improvements are being made for the medium term. They are hard to judge though, what constitutes an improvement. Martinez fell down because you could see we were going backwards.

We went further back with Koemageddon and Big Fat Sam took us to what is hopefully the bottom. Its a long way back up for air.

Any love for my boy Matt Miazga at Chelsea? He'll be a squad player at best there, but would be an instant upgrade over our aging and shell shocked backline.

Here's a quick twitter video of him leading the backline against France for the U.S. in June. He's was the vocal leader of the backline that held the soon to be world champions to a 1-1 draw in June.

He's confident, composed, and positive on the ball. Even captained a few matches on loan at Vitesse, where he helped them win their first ever trophy (Dutch Cup) and qualify for Europe over the past two seasons.

Update: He's being linked with a loan to Caen as of this morning. Too late Marcel.

How much for the pair?

I know it's hard for some of you to accept, but there are still 10 days left in the transfer window, and that's a long time in the world of football. Stuff will heat up in the last few days and there will be transfers that come out of the blue. Deadlines spur action. You see it all the time. And while you may think it's utterly imperative that we get all the new players in NOW, it's not. As long as they get them in eventually, that's all that matters. You can whinge all you want about being ready for Wolves, but the truth is that a player is not bought to satisfy a need for one game, or one month. They are bought to satisfy a need over the course of an entire season, or ideally for a number of seasons. So if it means waiting until deadline day to get the right player in, then so be it. This is the outlook that any good businessperson will have. Let's hope the transfer team we have in place is up to the task.
