Is there a lot of negativity about Digne? I honestly haven't seen it. I've seen people say they'd prefer Tierney, but not really anyone saying Digne would not be a good signing in his own right.

Personally i'm happy enough with Richarlison and Digne in theory (with the obvious caveat that i'm putting trust in the management's ability to know more about them than I do). I've seen very little of Mina but again I'm willing to believe that he'd be good. Rojo is different though, because I've seen him play a lot and not been very impressed. I can't pretend that I'd be happy at the thought of him being brought in as the saviour of our defence because I don't think he's good enough. Is he good enough to be part of our squad? Of course, he'd be an excellent addition. Good enough to be the man tasked with making that defensive unit a cohesive, watertight one? Not for me.

The fact he plays for United is irrelevant, Neville, Schneiderlin, Gibson, Rooney, Howard all did and none of them have come in and been superb for us. The idea that we should all just be happy at the signing of any centre half because we need one is ridiculous. You're clearly an intelligent person, you know that, so the post just seems deliberately antagonistic.

The only thing antagonistic is the undcessady negativity around the summers dealings. Digne is potentially the only one met with a bit of approval. The fee for Richarlison was ridiculed as was our scouting right up until the moment he started playing and everyone realises he’s good. The negativity towards Rojo is astounding though, Van Gaal liked him, Mourinho liked him, the United fans like him yet he’s being decried on here as a poor player.

If you think he’s not the man to make our defence a watertight cohesive unit that’s fine but I can’t think of any target we could get who would be. Out of all the players available this actually seems like a sensible signing based on his profile.

Add to that he seems like someone we can actually sign, rather than being pissed about by agents etc.

Brands is obviously losing patience with Mina and his hangers on.

Don't know much about Digne but he seems perfectly fine for us. The issue some have with the Richarlison deal is that we paid £50M for a player that seemingly only us were after so maybe a bit on the high side, we shall see. Rojo is not that good and has hardly figured under Mourinho and has recovered from a really bad injury so any doubts are justified to me. I think he is tainted with the fact we are seen as the Utd retirement home and he is the next in line. As a poster has pointed out, we seem to be recruiting for positions rather than recruit players to fill a need in a progressive system we are playing, Mina and Rojo are pretty different players so it seems a bit haphazard.

theres usually a reason utd want to get rid of a player...and we are always there as mugs ready to buy them. Darren Gibson, Schnieds, Rooney, we lapped them all up and they all turned out badly to varying degrees yet we still try to take their cast offs. Utd fans already think we are the Utd rejects FC, its embarrassing...Rojo linked, Linderof linked, Luke Shaw linked, desperate for Mata (who I would have loved here tbf)

Im going to against the grain here and maybe be the first evertonian to say i lile Rojo

I dont trust that the link is real, however if it is its certainly not a new enquiry Rojo has been linked out of the club all window i would assume the clubs in the running will have been enquiring the whole time

But i like his tenacity he can read a game he is rapid he is not scared to put in a tackle, the “reckless” “injury prone” talk is not as severe as some are making out

I for one support the transfer if it happens

Im hoping to see Digne announced today (UK Time)

Richarlison haters have silenced after a single pre season game i would imagine the same would happen watching Rojo close the gaps behind our dinosaur CM’s

Oh and any player Jose Mourinho dosent want i am Desperate we sign... De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku, Mata the list goes on he is shocking for letting great talent leave and hanging on to sub par players

And that's all perfectly reasoned and reasonable. Just saying 'we've signed players in all the positions you wanted what are you moaning for' isn't though, which is what I was getting at.

Last year I said I wasn't convinced that the squad we'd assembled was very good, and we were clearly lacking in a number of areas. LOTS of people said stop moaning, we're spending loads of money, what do you expect etc etc etc. Fast forward a couple of months and the same people were crying that we were going to get relegated, that Koeman and Walsh were frauds, we needed to bin the entire squad, did we not have scouts. Meanwhile I sat here thinking I don't really see what the issue is, this is pretty much exactly what I expected to happen.

I don't see why we all need to agree that every player we sign is superb value for money or the best option., We've got different opinions, it's fine. If we sign Rojo i'll obviously get behind him, and i'm certainly not claiming to be the oracle, he may well prove me wrong as others have before him. At this moment in time though, I see no problem in pointing out that I don't think he'd be a great signing as our first choice centre half.
