So wait. Are you actually saying we have not played a high line in pre season. Lol
I know we haven't. Silva doesn't high press, he doesn't have a high line to support it, he's primarily a counter attacking coach and has been doing pretty much the same stuff via his 4-1-4-1 at Sporting or his 4-2-3-1 / 4-3-3 at Watford. They used to literally make jokes about how Silva's Olympiakos teams would be better off just kicking it back to the other team so they could set up the counter. Do you not recall them beating Arsenal in the CL?

If you SERIOUSLY think what you saw was a high line, I strong suggest you watch some managers that actually employ it to try and understand the difference. Obviously, Klopp did it in Germany and with his current side - standard German gegenpressing, Pep does it a bit once they lose it as well as to support his possession based attack, etc.

I've heard ridiculous things about Silva - that he wants to play possession football, that he wants to high press, that he has to play a #6, that he said he would only play a 4-3-3 with Everton, etc., but none of these things are true.

For me Rondon and Niasse are different players, Rondon is essentially a target man and Niasse is like a second striker. If we signed Rondon I would think he would be back up for Cenk Tosun
Don't disagree with that, but the side already has an inferior striker sub that can get 10 or so goals in a season, plus Niasse is by all accounts a fabulous personality. Replacing him with Rondon doesn't add up, even by Dayvek standards.

I do SERIOUSLY suggest he has been playing with a high line this pre season, I don’t care what he has done at other clubs I care what he’s doing now.

That’s not the point though, is it?

Are we talking about what he’s been forced to play with the players given to him or what he is targeting on the market?

I think it's a bit of the point. He's played exactly the style he wants, he's not going to dramatically transform his tactics because we stink. He'll be a little flexible as we've already seen in the midfield, but he's not going to suddenly high press or anything.

The point is, he can deal with a bigger, less mobile center back more than say Pep can. But they still need to be able to play the ball with their feet and be positional smart. Although, I don't think that's really anything revolutionary.

No chance on Lascelles at this stage. Be astounded if that happened.

Yeah but if we are pushing for him, he knows that. We have the ambition to be in the top 6 regularly and winning trophies. Newcastle is not that and it doesn't look like they are being sold soon to have an injection of cash. The player himself might ask to leave. He isn't a local lad either.
